Flashing Red Light; Please Help!
« on: November 12, 2004, 12:25:00 PM »

I hit "RESTORE EEPROM" in Avalaunch and my xbox immediately shut down.  Since then my xbox won't boot.  When I turn it on it displays a flashing red light.  I did make a back up of my hd and I have several hdd's I can install.  I have the original EEprom and all the info off the HD, but I don't know what to do.  I tried to create a new hdd with Xbox HDM, but the boot cd I made for my PC won't boot up.  I don't know If I have to have linux on my PC 'cause I don't.  Here's what I have to work with and if anyone can give me a step by step, I will be eternally in your debt.

Opened Xbox.
40 Gb HD as well as the original HD.
High End PC running XP.
A backup folder of all my original Xbox HD folder.
Just about every Xbox file from "The Usual Place" Xbins.
NO MODCHIP!
I softmodded it.

Please Help  :uhh:

I'm pretty sure flashing red means your eeprom is toast.  If you're using a softmod, it means you'll have to put a chip in it.  Then you'll need to put a bios on the chip that can boot with out a working eeprom, ie m7/4981 with an eeprom embeded by xbtool, cromwell, or one of the os based modchips.  sorry for the bad news, but it could be worse.  good luck.

EDIT:  Ronin, you might be fucked.  yes it is possible to replace the eepron chip, but you need to get one from another 1.6.  It is not the easiest task to do and finding an eeprom chip from a 1.6 probably wont be easy either.  If your hard drive is locked you'll want to unlock it before you do anything.  The master password should be should be teamassembly, but I'm not sure so look up the program you used to lock it.   If you're wondering why it happened, it's because config magic is not compatible with 1.6 eeproms.  easiest solution, is either an new motherboard, or new xbox.

Well, i fixed my Xbox.
After trying to reflash my Aladdin with a new bios with embedded EEPROM (no luck) i bought the SmartXX modchip, this mod doesn't need the EEPROM to bootup. So i restored the EEPROM from the SmartXX-OS and the Xbox is running fine again!
