Flashbios 3.01 "unauthorized"
« on: November 09, 2004, 04:39:00 PM »

Well, I just re-ported my old changes to this nice new release by team xecuter (thanks!  B) ).  This BIOS has the ability to work on cheapmods, etc, and supports EEPROM flashing (if needed).  I suggest you don't use the EEPROM flashing unless you are desparate...

I'm not a professional coder, so if I've done a poor job, let me know.

Tested in a v1.0 XBOX successfully with DVD flashing.  Beats me if the HTTP flashing works.  Test it and let me know!

The EEPROM included is the one from bunnie's site.  It is a V1.0 EEPROM and *should* work with v1.0 - v1.5 xboxes.  It is, of course, banned.  It's mostly there for people who manage to corrupt their EEPROM and can't get Xecuter / EvoX to boot.  "Fix" your XBOX with this, boot EvoX, then install a good EEPROM.

Myself, I tested it with a v1.6 XBOX that was flashing red (sign of a bad EEPROM).  Even though the ROM was of the wrong type, it flashed and got the XBOX up and running with EvoX M8 no problem.  Please note that I used the v2.70 version of the code for that (The EEPROM flashing routine is identical in this version, don't worry!).

HOWEVER

I have had a PM from a user who tried it and it didn't work for him.  Caveat Emptor!  It might not work for you!  I wouldn't try it unless your EEPROM is already broken.  :D

HTH

BTW:  Thanx Gimp!  Always looking for feedback, positive or negative!

I've heard from some feedback this version may not work well with v1.6b boxes.

If so, give my older 2.70 BIOS a try.  I have used this on a couple of different v1.6b boxes for flashing now and haven't had a problem.

I haven't tried the EEPROM flashing in a v1.6b, though, just to let you know.

shepd,

Thank you for this, not used it but would rather have it and not use it (yet) than need it and not have it...

Any plans to update to 3.03 ?

As soon as Team Xecuter releases the source, I'll be on it.  All I can find right now is the binary... sorry!   :(  I can't do much with that, I'm afraid.

Thanks anyways!

Presently the EEPROM is embedded in the source code (I can't remember where... search for "EEPROM" in the sources!  :) )  I did this because I found the code to do this on another site.  I want to take everyone's suggestions and make it so the EEPROM can be loaded from DVD/CD but I'm afraid my programming skills suck.

The place I managed to get the code from actually had an older cromwell which didn't compress the code on the chip.  Now it is compressed I'm afraid it's impossible to just patch the BIOS data like one was able to do.

I will try it after the christmas season when I'm not so busy with customers!

i tried to resurerect a 1.6 with a faulty eeprom. your bios started which was really great but after i wrote the eeprom nothing worked and it seems that the board is totally damaged. no i also got the error taht the fan runs very fast on the first boot, it restarts 3 time sand get red/green as usual.

EEPROM corruption error:  Solid red light on boot, nothing else happens

BIOS corruption error:  Three boots, then FRAG (flashing red and green).

You should try reflashing your modchip!  The onboard original BIOS on your XBOX will not work while your EEPROM is flashed with that is on this cromwell BIOS.

When you reflash your chip, verify the flash, and also you should flash it with an EvoX M8/M8+ BIOS.  Those BIOSes seem to skip whatever it is in the EEPROM flash I have in my cromwell BIOS that other BIOSes (like Xecuters) don't like.

Once you have your XBOX booted with one of those BIOSes (M8/M8+), you can then load up a dashboard + the utilities you need to get your EEPROM flashed correctly.

not that adding a few flashid's is hard, but since you "ported" this over to work on other chips (like spiderchip did for their chip) shouldn't you know the way the eeproms work?  1.0 = 1.0 only, 1.1 = 1.1=1.5, 1.6 = 1.6 only

to other people that want to fix their eeproms with this you can embed any valid eeprom into this (or just into x2 4981 or evox m8 bios and mod with xbtool/evtool, then flash to xbox with configmagic that yoshihiro just released, or if the eeprom is fine and you just wanna reflash it to get back on live just run config magic instead of flashing your chip), there are "valid" blank eeprom generators (live info) to figure one out for your system, however keep in mind that if you have a blank eeprom (generated one) then it's not valid for xbl

shepd why don't you update the cromwell_eeprom_fix bios to support the newer xboxes (focus encoder+), or is that just too much harder than adding flashids?

also good luck to the 1.6b guys until xecuter releases sources for 3.03

@psilocybe how can i embed my eeprom into this? i cant code and looked in the sources, and couldnt find a eeprom.bin or somehting like that. restoring 1.0-1.5 is no prob since xecuter2 bioses support embedded eeproms but the 1.6 is really tricky.
moreover i got the following error after my attempt to fix my 1.6:

boots with fast fan speed and blinks very very fast 3 times, after that it flashes 4 times green in normal speed and goes to a solid green with lower fan speed. the led is always green, no red there - btw the error blinkings happen without any reboot.

well as mentioned you can use evoxm8_1.6 bios and evtool to get the eeprom in the bios, then run the aformentioned new version of configmagic
or on h3inrich's website (dunno where original source for this is) you can download those files (they are only good for 1.0/1.1 and the cromwell is a version i mentioned before) and within one of the archives is a patcher to embed the eeprom into a bios, i would assume that it would work for this new flashbios mod, if not that's why i mentioned recoding that and incorporating it into the newest cromwell with support for all xbox versions.   if it doesn't work then you would need to modify the source that is posted above and add the eeprom manually and recompile the bios
hope this helps somewhat

For people who has 1.6 with Xecuter3. Try flash EEPROM from shepd's BIOS 2.7 then flash the X3 BIOS 1943. The X3 BIOS should boot up. It works for me.  ;)
