I'm having trouble using a 400 gig Seagate hdd that I bought this past weekend (I couldn't resist this beast!).

I'm using it in a 1.0 xbox w/ matrix chip, flashed w/ x2 4981.06 bios.

I have no problem writing to the first 280gb or so, but then I start having freeze-ups on xbox-to-xbox transfers (Avalaunch 0.49.1).  If I erase something, then I can write a little more.  But it still shows 110 gig or so free but I can't use up any more of it.  I even did some FTP transfers (both from Avalaunch and from Evox) and it may act like it's copying the files, but when I refresh the directory on the xbox, nothing is there.

Has anyone successfully used 400+ gig harddrives on the xbox?  I know theoretically it should work, but...

I don't know if my problems are a bios issue or what.

Any comments or suggestions?

You either need to change the cluster size to 32k (think its 32k anyway) on the HD (use xbtool) or use a .67 bios.  Partitions of > 250Gig  with 16k clusters cause problems.

I don't see any options for "cluster size" in xbtool.  I've decided to go the .67 bios route for now.  So my F: is 137 gig and the rest is on G:  Which is just about right for a 400gig.

Just out of curiosity, is there a way to make F: larger (like 250gig)?

oops, i think you need to format the HD using xbpartiton or something like that.

As long as u have an LBA48 aware bios you should be OK.
