M8 Fixe For Xbox 1.6b

I haven't noticed any problems running the original m8_1.6 on older 1.6's (pre 9.14.2004).

I also wouldn't rush into flashing beta4 on any working xboxes as it still hasn't been thoroughly tested, plus there's no evtool support yet.

Hi all, just downloaded and tryed the beta4 version of the M8.. I just get a blank screen now when I turn the xbox on.. no blob or anything.  I flashed the installed xecuter 2.6 via evox dashboard. Seemed to flash fine. Also confirm my box does have hynix memory chips in it and was suffering from locking up within 5 mins when running the original M8_16 bios. I did manage to get the beta4 bios to boot once.. but tried another 10 times just so I dont need to take it apart again but since failed.. keep up the good work.. will test any bios needed. Will idle in xbins.
[update]

OK.. just gone back in there and it booted up first time, and did do for the next 10 presses of the on button.. left on for 5 mins.. then again blank screen when switching on, seemed to have something then to do with heat.

cheers

been playing alittle bit more..

for quick recap.. flashed with beta4

cold boot, boots fine
warm boot (unit been on more than 5 mins) I just get a blank screen when pressing the power button, but if I then press the eject button it boots then 50/50 chance it seems. Just ftp'in a game over to try.. not getting great speeds at all around 500k tbh.. might just be me that. This boot problem might have something to do with the cdrom, as when u press the power button it does make a funny noise (not a normal power up noise)

just trying to include as much info as I can..

cheers

and what happens when you try to run the xbox w/ the chip disabled?
if you have a heat problem then your focus should be on which component is overheating (generally the video chip is the first one to get hot, then mcpx, then cpu).

has anyone had any trouble with 1.6 boxes and certain dashboards?  I have a 1.6 using m8_16 and avalaunch. It works just great, hasn't froze yet. However, when i use the same bios and try to use unleashx, it will freeze right after flubber sometimes, but not always. I'm not sure if this 1.6b problem has anything to do with it, but maybe we should explore all possibilities. Also, is there a way to check my manufacture date on the xbox? I just got a 1.6 a month ago and shouldn't I thus be using a 1.6b or are the b boxes just a rare type. Maybe, M$ is testing new stuff to make it a little more interesting for the mod scene.

Its not a problem with the xbox over heating. It runs fine with the MSbios and reboots no probs at anytime with the normal M8_16 , just with this beta4 version it doesnt like restarting if the xbox has been turned on for longer than a couple of mins..

Why wasn't the 5838 used as the base for the m8_16 in the first place?

It was, but like franz said, evox used their own 2bl for the most part.

Just installed it in my 1.6 w/Hynix ram.

Fixed my issue with no video in cromwell!

Everything is working great so far.

New install, formatting, MS dash, Ava - everything looks great so far!

I'll post again after serious testing.

Thanks Yoshihiro!!

It could be that you've damaged your Hynix RAM through using the original M8_16 - i.e. the new bios may use different areas of memory for critical information.

Remember that RAM damage is not immediate - if RAM is damaged by static for instance it may be years later before it finally fails (once damaged the transistor will keep wearing away inside until it dies hours or years later).
