yea, basically i have no money, and i have a dead hdd, and i want to swap it out with this 40 gig i have, so what can i do?

There are 2 possible sollutions, but first you have to answer the following question:

Do you have a backup of your eeprom?

if the answer is yes, use xbhdm to prepare your 40Gig HD (with UXE complete or NDure complete), and lock it with your eeprom

if the answer is no, you have to get a chip, as hotswapping won't be an option for you (dead stock HD)

um, can i backup the eeprom now? if i hook up the hdd to my pc?

no.

unless:

1. Your HD ISN'T dead

2. You made a backup with EvoX or configmagic to your xbox HD

note that BOTH has to apply.

ok, may i say, ive never modded b4, i dont know what evox or whatever that is. so ive never backed anything up, i just want to know if theres a way to swap hdds because my xbox hdd doesnt work

In that case:

no.

You'd have to get a modchip for that, as modchips can use unlocked drives.

damn, alright, is that easy? like install the chip, then put an unlocked hdd in there?

Well, I'd guess so, but I can't tell for sure as I don't have a chip. But I guess the whole process would be along those lines:

1. Install chip
2. Flash BIOS of chip
3. install bigger HD
4. Burn slayers (usual Place) and insert it into your DVD-Drive
5. execute it and format the HD, put your favourite dash on there.

But I am probably not much of a help here.
