I have an old Xbox 1.1 modded, from 2002, which has the philips drive, it makes no noticable noise.

I just got a new xbox in the 'beast pack' which is a 1.5 and the tray for the cd is the same, so it must be a philips.  The only thing is, it makes clearly audible seek type sounds whether or not a disc is in the drive when you turn it on.  This is not the same as the popcorn sound the WD drive makes.

I just want to know if this is normal, otherwise I can return it to the store within 14 days, and get a new one.  Otherwise I have to rely on the warranty.
