Softmod Recommendation

If I'm not mistaken the link gives you abilities to download that installer crap so that makes it illegal. If you read the rules you would know that providing direct or indirect links to such things is not allowed.

Then about the installer stuff. The topic goes about softmod recommendations. There shouldn't even be a note of the deluxe installers since it's inferiour to installers that do use recent software. If the maker had any know-how what's going on these days he shouldn't even made it that way. That is not my opinion that is a fact. I am not saying it doesn't work but it's certainly not up to date and therefore not recommendable.

go to the save menu and pres RIGHT on the D-pad to select the save.

Oh dear is that all I needed to do, I haven't got access to my xbox at the moment but I'll try that asap. I was just pressing left in the 'memory' section of the MS dash to get to the memory card, then choosing either the Linux or Splinter Cell saves on it and all it gave me as an option was to DELETE these, I couldn't see a 'COPY' option anywhere. I was looking at a few things and they all had a 'COPY' option, one even had a screenshot of it, but all I could see was the option to 'DELETE'.

By the by, what happens if you try to load the saved game straight off the mem card in splinter cell instead of copying it to the hard drive?

I've used SID v1.1 on my v1.6 xbox and it worked like a charm, very easy to install with a nice frontend.

So what's wrong with it exactly?
Should I look to change it for something else?

It makes softmodding for new people to the xbox scene easy and painless. Not like those of us that learned the hard way (hddriver cough cough)

I installed SID in a box, then copied all the files to a larger drive, after a few days the box started with Error 16, installed the 8gb drive back, worked for a few days then Error 16 again. Don't know why. Then I found Krayzie's installer and all is good.

@ZeroSum, with krayzie you just select 1. Virtual Eeprom, 2. Virtual C, 3. select nkpatcher.06 or nkpatcher .67, 4. select dash (evox or unleash), that's it.

@ZeroSum, AFAIK Krayzie's installer need a clean/original/stock C drive. I posted in another thread how you can uninstall SID and install Krayzie, here

what if the hdd in your xbox isn't the stock one.  I put a 80gig in mine.  would that still work or would I have to put the stock one back in uninstall SID, install krazies, then do what I need to do to get my 80 gig back.

Don't know if newer games will mess your softmod, but if you want to change:
- if you follow the SID installation you created a backup before changing anything
- start your xbox with eject button and restore the clean C backup
- restart your xbox and remove the SID gamesave and load other gamesave
- follow the new installer instructions

Please keep your eeprom.bin in a safe place.

So I don't know if I'm getting this completely... I'm sorry I'm much more of a chip guy, but here's what I got so far.
I ftped the Splinter NSFT save file (Softmod Installer Deluxe 2.0) into the UDATA folder, and when I put the game in, I saw that it said Linux as the save. I didn't press A just because I wanted to be completely sure that I was doing everything right. When I press A will my xbox be modded? or what else do I need to do?
I have the hard drive that needs to go into the softmodded xbox (a 120gb Seagate with evox on it, put on with Slayers Auto Installer 1.3) so if I switch out the stock HDD with the Seagate, will it all work? I don't want to do anything to completely mess up my xbox.
Again I'm sorry this is such a noob question, but I just don't get softmodding.

How did you FTP the SplinterCell save to your box? Unless this box has a modchip inside you shouldnt have FTP access.

Follow the onscreen instructions? I've never used Softmod installer deluxe (it's old and out of date) I've always used Krayzie's.

No. The bigger harddrive needs to have the softmod installed PLUS it needs to be LOCKED using the EEPROM data from the x-box it is going into. You need to read some of the tutorials to work out how.
