Softmod Recommendation
« on: April 08, 2005, 04:56:00 PM »

I already have a chipped box. Then I was playing around and accidentally one another xbox on ebay.  I want to softmod this one as a hobby because it fascinates me that it can be done.  The only problem is that there seems to be so many options and choices, I'm not sure which to do.

I have the originals of mechassault and splinter cell.

Now I just need to know what the best option is for the following conditions:

1) I will not be using XBOX live. Not into online gaming, except PC.
2) My kernel on the box I want to mod is 1.00.4034.01
3) My dashboard is 1.00.5960.01
4) I prefer not to have to do button pushes (audio hack) since I am basically all thumbs (reason for not wanting on XBOX live :)

Thanks for any help the community can give.

look for "Anothergamesaveinstaller" its available for Splinter Cell and its an amazing softmod installer, its easy to setup to, just follow the prompts, like 1, 2, 3 then 4 "Install UXE", thats it, done!

It takes about 3/4 minutes to softmod your xbox this way.

Softmod Auto Installer Deluxe:

I like it the best. (long restore though)

Krayzies Softmod:

An easy turn-off/on switch.

I use BlackWar's installer now-a-days. It uses nkpatcher 10 and sets up ShadowC for you. It's very simple to use and I feel that it is the best soft mod out there.

Up the top of this lot of threads it reckons UXE is the best one. I haven't been to these forums properly in ages (7 months or so) but I may soon have to softmod a xbox, I was looking through a lot of these threads but couldn't really find the answer to a very basic question (maybe I didn't look hard enough) - Once you install one of these softmods, is your xbox permanently modded? What I mean to say is, will I have to do something every time I turn on the xbox to enable the softmod again? Or will it be just like having a chip?

Even if someone just points me to a FAQ that'd be great, I read the pinned topics up the top already.

Hey from one noob to another I used softmod installer deluxe 2.0.  worked like a charm.  I used this site to figure out what I needed to do.

Linking to illegal files...against forum rules, yes?

I never really understood why anyone would use an installer. It is so simple to do it w/ out.

first of all you are linking to illegal software and second of all if you read a few posts back you would notice I said the SID was crap and outdated.

I think I'ma have to report the to the mods to remove the link. Next time go read the rules before doing such a thing.

Alrighty so I ended up getting Krayzie's PAL splinter cell one, and I had a read through the readme obviously and a few posts. From what I can gather I need to copy both the folders with random numbers in them to my modded xbox's hard drive in its UDATA folder (which is on C: i think?)

Then plug in the memory card and use the original ms dash to copy these saved games to it (i think I read somewhere they will only appear as the one saved game though?) I've never used a memory card before in my life but I'll figure that out.

Then once they're on there, plug the card into the unmodded box, copy the saved game from the memory card to the unmodded boxes hard drive, put in Splinter cell (its ok to use the platinum version?) start the game and load the 'saved game' up and away we go.

Also I need to make sure there are no other splinter cell saved games on the unmodded's hard drive, and also to wear a tutu and listen to green day whilst all this is happening.

Ignoring that last sentence, is all this correct? Is there any other little vital detail I've left out? (It doesn't matter how small pretend I know nothing) Sorry for hi-jacking this thread by the way.

Ah this might sound like a stupid question but now I've got the two folders included in the splinter cell bizzo onto the memory card, how do you actually get them off the memory card and onto an unmodded box? (I'm assuming they do need to be on the unmodded xbox's hard disk before I try and run the exploit?) I thought it would be just something you could easily do from the MS Dashboard but there doesn't seem to be any option to 'copy memcard saves to hard disk' or anything of that nature.

Is it staring me right in the face? It must be because I can't find anything explaining how to do this.

its probably looking you right in the face.. I felt the same way when I did it.  just put the mem card in your controler turn the xbox on without a game init and copy they saved game files to your xbox.
