Hdd Avoid Hotswapping
« on: October 06, 2004, 02:39:00 PM »

Hey guys, im a totally newbe and i have a few questions...

I got an x box version 1.4

im thinking of soft modding it
ive read basic tutroial and have come up with a plan of action
i just need some verification

1. open the x box
2. remove the hard disk
3. attach x box hdd to pc using IDE cable
4. after the new Hdd is recognized use some software to decode the lock mechanism (i.e. UnLockX)
5. after i have access to the hdd use a program (xboxhdm - does this only work if my os is linux?) to copy files to the x box hdd
6. replace font files
7. Install PBL

i get stuck after point 4. After the software decodes the lock can i access the HDD
like a normal HDD. I then have to replace the font files. What will this do exactly?
If i replace the font files and install the PBL and put the HDD back in the x box and start my x box will it just automatically load evo x. this is the point were i am really confused. Loading PBL lets me run unsigned code and does replacing the font files load evo x? With evo x can i use the x box like a lan pc (play mp3z mpeg etc.. ) or do i need to install windows onto it?

Is there any steps i am missing? Is there n e thing i misunderstood? And can someone please tell me what software i need? I do not want to do hot swapping i.e. run the x box and then attach the hdd to the pc whilst the x box is on. can this be avoided?

Also how do i physically remove the HDD are there n e screws that need to be undome after u opne the case because i cant seem to get it loose

thanks
btw my operating system is win 2000 sp4 not linux.
