Possible Xbox V1.7 ? Hope Not!
« on: August 19, 2004, 08:45:00 PM »

I am attempting to do my second xbox v1.6 and am running into a major problem. The first one I did worked like a charm. I use aladdin 256k mod chips and convert them all to use header pins. I followed the LPC rebuild to a tee. I made damn sure i used the m8_16.bin I have double checked all wiring. I have even tried a few differnt chips. (i should also point out I have done over 100 systems! ) Here is the problem.

With Chip On machine does not frag. I get green a green light. I can hit eject and get a flashing green light. Thats about it. No video no sound.

With chip off and removed - Works 100% perfect stock.

With no chip installed but D0 still conected machine frags as expected.

Machine is a 2004-06-18
Serial No. 4081744 42505
Product ID 641 4081744 42505

I am really stumped. Any ideas what I should do next?

Thanks

I doubt it's a 1.7. If you REALLY think it is.. take some pictures of the motherboard.  wink.gif

I am pretty sure its not a 1.7 I ws just worried that something might have been changed again on the video encoder hence my problem. It is the Xcalibur of course but I though maybe a new version of it??!?!. I am taking it to my buddies house tommorow to continue to work away at it and try and find a solution. I am going to try some alternate soldering points as well.

I have installed over 50 Aladdin chips and have been very happy with them. The first xbox v1.6 i did worked no problem at all. I have given up on the xbox that i started this thread over. Now I have yet another xbox v1.6. The problem with this machine is that when I turn it on it only boots some of the time. Here is the really odd thing sometimes when I turn it on it acts like this last one it power up to a green light but no videa and no audio and it just sits there. If I open and close the DVD tray the machine boots? What I have done wrong now? Perhaps these aladdin chips just suck in xbox v1.6 ??!?

Any ideas? I wish I had a more expensive chip to test in it.

you grounded d0? as far as i know v1.6 doesn't have a d0 point. the onboard bios is disabled by grounding the lframe. the onboard bios uses the lpc bus already so i can't see the use of a d0 point.

I encountered similar problems with 1 of my batches of Aladdin Advance chips.  It seems that there are a lot of different versions of CLPD code floating around in the Aladdin Advance chips, and not all of them work properly on v1.6 Xboxes.  I had a whole batch of 50 Aladdins that wouldn't work on v1.6 Xboxes, then the next batch I got worked fine.  In my case, I was able to verify that the problem wasn't due to bad soldering or an incorrect LPC rebuild, because when I plugged in an Akira, Akira 2, or OzXChip, they all worked fine.

I got a batch of 20 Aladdin Advance 64's that are almost all bad. When I squeze the chip right where the SST sits into the socket, it boots. When I let go, it frags. I guess the sockets are not making good connections or cold solder joints under the socket. I got them from www.the-console-corner.com  I don't recommend them. They have messed up every order and shipped me wrong parts 2 times in a row.

Dude I am getting the exact same problem!!! with the intermittent loading, no A/V etc.

I believe I've narrowed it down to the actual SST flash chip. Since the chips are socketed, I've been swapping them around & sometimes reflashing them.

I have 4 1.6's and 8 chips (alladin advanced 32)

some chips don't work at all, most work intermittently with varying success rates

and only 1 or 2 work 100%

The chips work fine in a 1.3 xbox, Why are these 1.6's so fussy?

I've noticed the MD5 code changes on bootup sometimes, that's not supposed to happen is it?

I've made the appropriate entries in Evox, and (on a good chip) the bios is recognised most of the time, but othertimes it will come up as unknown bios. Same chip same bios, All I do is turn off the xbox and turn it on again.

It was the chip. I have got a new batch of chips from robotpig and walla. Problem solved. Anyone having this problem would be wise to have one chip that they know 100% is flawless with the 1.6 and keep it for testing.

Good Luck everyone! I am done with the crappy 1.6's for awhile as I hit the motherload of old stock xbox v1.3 systems w/ samsung drives smile.gif

go with the aladdin xt a.k.a "xenochip", best chip for 1.6 xboxes IMO smile.gif

I am getting almost the exact same problem ( http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=273388 )

using turban advances, got a x2 going to pop it in and give it a whirl

strange thing about my setup is that when i flash the mode with 5838 (normal 1.6 retail bios) it will boot fine... alas m8_16 does not work

let you know results tomoreow

Pawn shops... what kind of 'solution' is that.
This thread is about the existance of a incompatability between 1.6 xbox's and aladdin advance products. not about 'OMG my h4x04d 1337 xb0rx 15 n0t h4xxx1ng"
you realize that eventually more and more xbox's on the market will be 1.6s
yeah i know what we'll do. we'll avoid the problem completely... good thinking

Next time you have something to say... dont

ANYWAYS
on to real testing...

It does appear to be an incompatability with the 'aladdin advance plus' product. I am unsure if the same incompatability is found in the 64 and 32 models as well. I can vouch  for the 'aladdin advance live' product being compatable with 1.6s

Swaping the socket'd bios out of the AA plus product and into the AA live product work like a charm.

Throwing the x2 lite in (first model? unsure) made the xbox always on (ie plug it in and its already started up). I read something about this in another thread. Not sure if it was solved. Didnt trace the issue down as i had another mod which is working fine.

Gluck with your problem...
I bought AA live products from www.foundmy.com they also include a programmer (compatable with x2 lites as well)

EDIT

Thinking about this more... the retail bios flashed to the mod worked fine... It actually looks like an incompatability between Aladdin Advance Plus Products and the M8_16 bios (bios or mod at fault? who knows... but this old aladdin product is being phased out anyways)
