Hmm, ok, since this is all new, maybe someone can answer this...

Do you need to reformat the F drive once you put this new bios on? Reason I ask is because I formatted the F drive on a 250G with the normal M8 bios (that obviously only showed 127G) but now that I just reflashed with this new bios and rebooted it shows all 241G free on F without needing to do a reformat. Is this going to work or will it bomb out at 127G? I just dont wanna fill that much up only to have to reformat it again tomorrow.

How did you format the drive?  If you used OS2pre to do it, it probably formatted the whole thing, and this new M8 just lets you see it all.

Config magic doesn't seem to work on the 1.6, so I guess I'll have to use the pain-in-the-ass HDD unlock program on my PC in order to use this drive in something else.

Make (or download) an EvoX boot disk with the Lock HDD and Unlock HDD commands.  I believe this still works fine on v1.6 Xboxes.

As for running Avalaunch, I think you can, but M8 boot order only contains Evox, then MS Dash for now.  You could try renaming Avalaunch to evolutionx.xbe I guess.

Let me know if it works, I want to run UnleashX.

Actually, I believe it should be evoxdash.xbe, and not evolutionx.xbe.  Having said that, anything you name as evoxdash.xbe will launch.  So name the UnleashX dash file to evoxdash.xbe will work.  This is how I've always installed UnleashX.

I've had 3 days running of M8lba48_16-06, have filled a 160Gb multiple times, it runs perfectly.

Has anybody had any issues with the lba48 M8 bios?

1.6 xen ice, 200gig -- running m8 stock -- looking for m8 lba

what is the difference: M8_16_LBA48_IGR_C-06.bin
and M8_16_LBA48_IGR_Q-06.bin

And since bios has IGR, disable in dash?

thx

Quick reset method vs. more compatible method.

Yes you should turn of the dash igr. When I tested with it on everything seemed ok, but I would turn it off nonetheless.

The difference lies in the method of IGR I believe.

The "C" version of the BIOS has a more "COMPATIBLE" IGR

and

The "Q" version of the BIOS has a "QUICK" IGR

You can switch the BIOS IGR method with the just released
EVtool 0.7.0.b1 tool. I've done it and it works like a charm.
I'm still hesitant to switch to M8_LBA48 from my X4983 bios.
I'm gonna keep an eye out on this topic to see how the brave
souls are doing. So far everyone gives it a thumbs up!

Peace.....

Is there a difference in the buttons to use for IGR between Quick and Compatible?

I just updated from alpha to the new IGR_Q, and used Evtool to adjust my boot order to unleashx.xbe, evoxdash.xbe, msdash.xbe, works awesome.

Thanks NghtShd!

Can't stand evox...

Can you disable IGR in unleashx or avalaunch?

Any idea if XBMC supports large drives (G)?

I have setup a little over 100 xbox's now and not a single person I modded has even thought of coming to X-S for help, updates, news, etc. I have told every one of them about this place because they all ask "How do you know so much about Xbox's".. I just say because of X-S. They just don't understand the concept of upgrades.. End users are so used to buying something like a DVD player, and what it comes with is it.. never gonna do anymore.

ok, rant over about the stupidity of end users/typical consumers.. Sorry about going off topic like that.. least I wasnt trying to start a flame war. lol. We are all obviously not those people since we are reading this.  beerchug.gif

Of what i know :

quick : will always go back to dash, even if a dvd is in the dvd tray (great!)
compatible : some games (like sc2) will hang if you try to IGR(with quick one, x2 one and evox one) whle playing (works when you are at the main menu), compatible wont hang in those games. But its a bit longer and load the dvd in the tray if present
