I messed up. I sucessfully modded my own xbox using the mech assault method. I have a version 1.0 xbox.

Now i tried to mod my friends xbox. he also has a V1.0 xbox. But he installed xbox live. I was having trouble getting the audio or font method to work. i could get evolutionX to run when i had mechassault in and useing the save game. but the font and audio hacks never worked. When i was in evoX I did hit back up eprom (or is it eeprom or epprom i dunno) and it worke (i'm pritty sure) but i never had a change to ftp to my xbox and get that to my pc. when i restarted the xbox I got that gay your xbox needs service error. It has a white 21 in the upper left corrner(if that helps) I called MS and they said it would be $80 to fix it. so then i was like fuck that so i opened up the xbox hopping i could hotswap the hard drive and fix but that did not work.

any idea on what i should try? I have one working softmodded xbox (incase you forgot). I also have a linux pc (though i'm not very good with linux)

One more Question:
If i get a mod chip will this help solve my problem? I think the font hack messed up the dashboard.

it should launch a game DIRECTLY from boot... put the game in.. turn it off... then hit power button... and it should run the default.xbe from the disk and not the hdd... then simply use slayers... fix your screw up... and use a patcher! (Ltools!)

Nope mechassault wont run. it still goes to the you need service error. I dont have any other game with me right now but i will try one once i get a hold of one.

Any other ideas.

Thats why my policy is "ALWAYS BACKUP THE HARD DRIVE BEFORE YOU MESS WITH IT!!!" I dont jut mean copying the files to your computer either. I use hddriver to backup the drive and if something goes wrong I can restore it without any problems.

Thats a good policy. but that doesnt help me. Would buying a mod chip help? or do i have to send it to microshit?

Well sending it into MS isnt going to help cause you hacked into the system. There gonna notice you were messing with stuff. Installing a modchip will help you.

Is there any one modchip that is beter than the rest? I would prefer soderless but i cand soder. and are you sure it will work?

Ok since no one answered my question i'm gonna add a bit more information:

1)I have a version 1.0 xbox that was/is sucsessfully softmodded useing the mechassault exploit (mikejones package from xbins).


2)I have a version 1.0 xbox that was unsucsessfully softmodded. I tried useing the same exploit. This xbox had xbox live install which I personaly think was part of the problem. I tried several times to install the audio exploit with mikejones' package. It was un sucessful the first try so I tried to finish it by hand using a file explorer which didnt work so I tried to uninstall it by hand which didnt work so again I tried to install it by hand. Then I think (it was before thanksgiving that I did this(like the weekend around the 16Th whenever the nearest saterday was)) I tried to use the font exploit. I Think this is when everything went bad.

2.1)When I turn the xbox on it does the flubber animation thing, then displays the xbox logo and says MS underneath.
2.1.1)Then it does something so wierd that it took me literaly 10 restarts of the xbox to figure out. It shows a circle on the right side of the screen (A green circle) that slowly gets bigger (it's only displayed for like 2.75 sec.) then it goes to the error screen (The one in many languages saying you need servace and the led flashes red/green). The error screen has a number 21 in the top-left corner of the screen. Which I interpreted as

21 - anywhere - This error says that the machine was booted to display a error, basically someone told the machine to reboot (or launch a xbe) with this flag, and the error code just means its been rebooted by the flag
So i think the font exploit is telling it to say that.


3)I might be totaly crazy.


4)I want to know for sure if a mod chip will solve this porblem or if I should just send to microshit.

4.1)I know atleast 1 xbox with linux on it got fixed by microshit and isnt that what the exploit is doing installing a cool version of linux that works on xboxs and lets us do nifty things.


5)I dont have the EEPROM handy (I did click backup EEPRON in evoX when I got it to run (when mechassault was in) ) so its on the harddrive some where in some text file


6)I tried to hotswap the harddrive a couple of times but had no luck.


7)I hve tried booting with mechassault in the CD drive and out, I tried with a controle pluged in and with it unpluged, I tried with a memcard and without(I didnt think they would work but w/e)


8)I think thats everything under the sun relating to this xbox.

Thanks for taking your time to read about my problem and I hope someone has an idea(I'm up for trying just about anything)

p.s.  If I need to get a modchip which one should I get?

I had something like this happen with a friends xbox. I had forgotten to copy a certain file over, and that messed up the softmod. The xbox wouldn't let me run games either, so I thought it was a messed up hard drive. What I did was, put an original disc in the tray, let the xbox boot an listen really carefully. You will hear the hard drive tick a little. Just after it does this remove the ide cable and do a hotswap with either another xbox or pc to fix up the files.

Are both the XBOXes the same kernel and dashboard? If it is, make a COMPLETE backup of your working hard drive and put it on the broken one via hotswap. That way, it's fixed and has the softmod installed.
