x2 4983 Coloring Tutorial?
« on: April 26, 2004, 11:08:00 AM »

I searched around and wanted to know if there was a tutroial on how to change the blob diffrent colors. I remember seeing a page 2-4 weeks ago on where the offsets are for each color. I have tried using xbtool but I never understood how to use it.

Thanks,
Kyle

xbtool wont let you do anything for 4983 other than pack/unpack
there are offsets/mini tutorial on the blob if you download the 4981blue with info file from xbins under the unofficial section
this is the thc x2 bios that tells how to color mod the blob

as a note i'm not sure how much you'll be able to do to the blob as i know i couldn't even change anything but to remove the TM logo from the bios as far as no ani no xbox logo etc.
i didn't look at modding the colors of the x or even the blob for the x2 4983 but most the stuff i have looked at are encrypted (i knew some parts of the kernel was but not all as much as what is)
and like i said from what i have tried the only things i could patch was to get rid of the TM

Yeah I went back to 4981.06 I changed the blob to a blueish color by just changing 48 to 4C from what the tutorial said. I still dont under stand what is going on there with all the values.

CODE
INIT:8006D9A4 004                 fstp    dword ptr [ecx+48h]; // Blob G Value
INIT:8006D9A7 004                 mov     dword ptr [ecx+44h], 3E800000h; // Blob R Value
INIT:8006D9AE 004                 fld1                   ; Load +1.0
INIT:8006D9B0 004                 fstp    dword ptr [ecx+50h]; // Blob A Value
INIT:8006D9B3 004                 mov     dword ptr [ecx+4Ch], 3E19999Ah; // Blob B Value
INIT:8006D9BA 004                 fldz                   ; Load +0.0
INIT:8006D9BC 004                 pop     esi

In hex it looks like this-the 48 is the 48h seen above as green value ...

0x0005D9A0  70 08 00 00 D9 59 48 C7-41 44 00 00 80 3E D9 E8
0x0005D9B0  D9 59 50 C7 41 4C 9A 99-19 3E D9 EE 5E D9 59 54
0x0005D9C0  D9 EE D9 59 58 D9 EE D9-59 5C D9 E8 D9 59 60 D9
0x0005D9D0  E8 D9 59 64 D9 E8 D9 59-68 C7 41 6C 33 33 13 40

to change the values...

Blob G Value : 48 (48h) : green value is set as 1.0 - swap value with another color channel to change. i.e.: swap green 48 with blue 4C gives you a 1.0 blue value (1.0 = 255) and a green value you can play with. use the base converter in hex workshop to save alot of headache from mental equations.

I Hex edited the 48 to 4C. Are the RGB values just for the blob? What is the A value for? Where can I find how to change the other parts of the blob scene (fog, lights etc..)?

Thanks,
Kyle

All i know is, i have seen the blue one packaged as a rar [not saying where to get it]

but, take this as a hint:

XBOX/Bios/Xecuter/Xecuter 2/Unnoficial (or custom)

Also, when i edited my own in xbtool, it only changed the initial orb (i made it red, so when u power on its red for a second) - then it changes back to green, then right before it explodes red dust comes around it and blows up into my red X logo.

Im sure you could make the whole blob red too, using some hex editing, but thats too confusing to me.

Ill wait for someone to package it wink.gif

pm me on efnet my nick = "johnney5" if you got a red one =)

Yeah I know about the tHc Blue Blob. I have changed it to a purple color and now it is black after my last change. I dont really under stand how I changed it I just know I can. That is why I am asking what the R,G,B, and A values each are for. Once I know that I could change it to red or what ever color I want. How did you make red dust? I dont understand that part.

Thanks,
Kyle

Hey, all i did was get the most recent xbtool version. It automatically changes the "blob" color to the "X spotlight" color, or one of them. Just check the xbtool website (google it), they have it somewhere in the changelog.

It doesnt change the entire blob color, only when u first turn on your xbox (you will see a little dot with the color, i see a little red orb, then it changes to green as it expands, flubbers around a bit as green), then right when its gonna explode red dust comes out and the blob turns red/explodes into the X logo.

Try it out, all you need is xbtool like i said.

exactly, he wants the whole thing that color
also all xbtool really does is change the part of the ani where it goes from the blob to the x to teh color of the inner x so when it fades in it doesn't look horrible

R = red
G = green
B = blue
A = alpha
values are from 0.0 (0) to 1.0 (255)
Alpha is how opaque an object is, if you set it to 0.0, it will almost invisible, 1.0 makes it a solid.

You can mod the blob using any kernel from any bios. You simply look for the hex string that occurs before the section which is the the same throughout. If you want I can post them.

Thats somewhat what I mean. Everyone changing the bios blob seems to be using only x2 4981 because the locations for that are documented but they are not for other bios kernels but it you simply load the kernel  in your hex editor and search for certain string it will bring you to that location for you selected bios. For instance the initial flubber glow color is always after this string "0000C1E0180D" and for each of the strings there is only one occurance of them making it easy to assume it's the right place. Also to find the color RGB values simply search for "70080000D959" which right after it is the value for G. 3 bytes after G is R, 12 bytes after G is the alpha, and 15 bytes after G is the B value. As for the flubber radius it's always after "D95968C7416C". I could put it more structered list if you want and also include the other items from jbones info such as the scene color
