and tried all my progs etc. Everything works AOK and it is so cool to have a BIOS config available as an app without having to copy files back and forth to make changes.

Worked just fine for me on discs and from the HD. Try putting the x2config.xbe in C:, linking it in Exox ini so you can open it and check the IGR enable/disable settings.
You didn't put the igr-disabled file into E: did you? If so, it is disabled. Don't bother with those files, just use the config.
