laugh.gif but the video was all screwy when i turned on the xbox. I flicked the switch to M7 Eeprom bank and it booted fine and i could see meaning it did infact boot using the embedded eeprom. I then loaded up config magic and loaded my eeprom from bin on the hard drive and reupdated the xbox eeprom. flicked back over to x2 4981 and all was well video was back to ntsc and eeprom was fixed.

So from my results it works  smile.gif but i havent tried this with a blank eeprom. anyone got some technique to blank their eeprom? il test it. Secondly there are no results on xbox live banning either. i dont have xbox live or i would test.

Glad to see it works. Although I was pretty confident that it would, you never know for certain until you see it in practice. I'd love to know now about Live! from someone with a spare eeprom. Unfortunately, I don't have Live either.

Do you really need a live account to test live banning though?  Does MS not ban you if you try to sign up to their service while your mod is on?

I don't know. The best wat to test it is to try to get on with the bogus embedded eeprom then try with the real one and see if it works. Trying to sign up may not be a good test.

NghtShd
Sorry for the delay.  I used the M7 and 4781 bios and they work.  It did show me that I have a dead HD on my xbox ver 1.0 or it is lock and I can't unlock it I get an error 06 by superfro.  Great work NghtShd.
Thanks

do people who say i have extra eeproms make them themselves or just have more than one xbox. Just wonering. Or isthere a place where you can get eeproms. And can two xboxes be  using the same online code on live.

ok what with m$ increasing live supcription by 50% in th uk i doubt i'm gonna sign up (at least until halo 2 comes out)

I'm very interested about this from the point of corrupting the eeprom when doing a videomode switch/ hd lock/unlock.

Let me apologise for my noob thinking in advance

NghtShd and skorchir from reading your posts- as in under stand it:

The xbox will boot with the embedded eeprom (I'd use my original eeprom), then using a video mode switcher like ava's- if it corrupts an eeprom it'll be the one on the xbox and not the one on/in the bios. so then turning off the bios and turning on the xbox in unmodded mode would lead to the flashing red light.

sorry if i've misunderstood this.

So is config magic the way to fix a corrupted eeprom, and can that be done all from the xbox?

which eeprom is a game using when it boots the embedded one or the hd's eeprom.

I have a crappy cheapmod, so 256k is the only size i can have, will i be able to embed th eeprom in that? or is this only for larger bios sizes.

I see that the xbtool 1.0.19b2 version can embed the eeprom in x2 4981- is that working the same?

Totally unrelated- has the ftp server been removed from x24981 and would it even work for 256k bios- i'm worried about possible conflict between holding the "a" button for an avalaunch quickstart and launching the embedded ftp server

thanks guys for the info- and great job NghtShd!

hey thanks for the very swift reply NghtShd that has answered almost all my questions- only issue i have is this:

If the game always accesses the embeded eeprom, surely the autoswitching of video modes will not work as the embeded eeprom doesn't get altered?

I assume this would also relate to apps that could unlock hd's or any other eeprom related functions?

Anything which needs to get the actual settings from the eeprom will have problems if they differ from what's embeded in the kernel. If something switches video mode the switch may take place and everything may work just fine (you'll have to test it to see) until you reboot and the cached eeprom settings are lost or until something causes the settings to be reread into the eeprom cache. Hard drive unlocking will fail if you are using a completely different eeprom, but if you are only going to change parts of the eeprom (using eepmod) then I believe it would still work. So maybe you can just use a bogus online key, mac address, and serial number and be cool.

edit: eepmod

biggrin.gif

Now I still have to try to flash the actual eeprom (config magic don't let me do that due to an "invalid xbox version specified"), but that's another story. No matter what, I can now boot & play my Xbox, thanks again to you, Iceuk, Skorchir, Zappo & all the others I forgot.

hi, i did not fully read the whole thread so maybe my question has already been asked...

i just wanted to know if now we can pack a bios (for example x2 4981) and add blank eeprom info in it and then use this bios

so when using such a bios with blank eeprom info in it, can the xbox work properly? it would be good if it worked cause we wont be afraid anymore of an accidental xblive connection

and in x2 4981 xblive blocking support in games is garanteed just for a list of already released games, and if the bios packed with blank eeprom info worked well, we have a perfect blocking system for all upcomming live enable game in the futur; am i right?

the xbox will work with a blank eeprom as far as i know of as long as it has a video mode and region set, but games with system link will cause problems if no mac address is set.

you dont necessarly need a blank eeprom but a modified one with fake info and a removed online key would be good. Only problem is it hasnt been tested as of yet, i am still awaiting someone to post results on this whole xbox live banning solution.
