Is There A Debug Bios I Could Use For Live
« on: February 17, 2004, 04:37:00 PM »

Ok i, was thinking about trying to get a debug bios to work on live but first i need a couple of things clearing up.

As far as i understand MS bans your eeprom when connecting to live with a hacked bios, however a debug bios does not require a valid eeprom for it to boot.

Obviously there is something i am not seeing here but wouldnt it be possible to access live and use the debug bios to take screens of your live games? If you were to use config magic to remove your eeprom data how would MS ban it?

I presume the complex release of the debug bios would be considered a hacked bios from MSs point of view therefor you would have to use the original debug bios from an XDK.

This brings another problem of loading games using a debug dash, obviously the original ms debug bios wont load original games for you to use live with.  Is it posible to remove the media tags and make it debug version so it would boot?

Would upgrading the ram on a the standard xbox converted to XDK help at all in anyway of achieving this?

Thanks in advance for all your input!

remember the EEPROM live settings since if these are incorrect it will generate errors like "live not found".

how do devkit boxes get banned anyway?

ok i have come accross a couple of strange things.

So far i have converted my retail xbox to a debug.  Im using the 1mb Complex_4627Debug bios. cant remember which xdk build im using right now i think it was the release before the latest, if not only one more behind that.

I know i dont need a valid eeprom to boot with the debug bios so i made a copy of it and then deleted it, now when my mac adress is all 00s, i can make gamertags albiet not valid ones, this is covered in the docs for the xdk launcher. I tried to load up my original eeprom and to make one with this yet it wont do it at all with this eeprom.

So i have come to the conclusion that while i am running a debug bios with a retail eeprom i will not be able to connect, or as its said in the docs for the xdk the minority sent out with blank mac address will not make a valid gamertag or connect to the xbox live service, please insert a valid mac adress to do this.

Now here is my questions

Can anyone confirm that retail eeprom debug bios compatibility problem is known and not just some error i have made along the way?

I have access to numurous debug AND developers kits from work, would getting eeprom data from either one of those types of xbox fix my problem?

Dont worry if any advive given may lead to the banning of the eeprom i have, this isnt a problem as i have plenty different eeprom images to work with.

Oh and i forgot to mention, at the min whenever i try to connect to xbox live service i get the msg xbox live not found.
Yet if i test the connection to partner.net in the xdk launcher then it does connect fine.

Anyhelp would be much appreciated!

Xbox devkits use a special version of the live servers for their debugging purposes and not the standard live service.  MS cannot permit their debug machines to potentially disrupt the commercial end user servers.  This is all preconfigured in the XDK, if you tried to connect to the live service using a debug config you will not get the regular servers and you will not be able to find anyone to play against.

Does this makes sense?

This would make sense in a way but not another.

I understand that no disruption can be caused by MS, or dev houses. However i cant connect to live service but i can connect to partner.net and i can also create gamertags.

So far i have manually inputed a serial number, online key and mac address which are all valid from another xbox.

If its just a case of being able to play with other dev users thats fine, as i said above i have access to a large number of both the debug and developers kits.  Trying to completly replicate i debug machine is a project i have taken on for educational purposes only, just to see if can actually be done.
