| i just bought an xbit modchip for my son's xbox and i'm a total newbie with this and they say this is supposed to be idiot proof ... haha well i'm a total idiot then. If someone would be so kind as to help me find out what i need to do as i've read the forums but it doesn't tell me alot. I have flashed the modchip but it's asking me for a bin file (bios) and not sure which one i need or how to go about it, btw i have an xbit 2mb chip ... any help would be appreciated thank you. |
First. Put the rain coat back in the closet and put your clothes back on. THAT is not what they meant by FLASHING the chip.
Second. If you downloaded a proper bios, one made by either EvoX or Xecuter, then you are on the right path. Most of these bios, depending on where they are downloaded from, will either be a .zip or a .rar file. If you are not familiar they are both archive formats. You would need to get either WinZip or WinRAR to extract the contents of these files. Once you do you should then see that they contained a file with a .bin extension. You may also need to change the view properties on your operating system inorder to see a .bin file. . Next depending on the size of the .bin file and the size of the bank you are trying to flash it to you may need to either get another copy of the bios or use a tool such as XBTOOL to resize the bios file or alter it's properties. Such as the color that the X comes us as at boot time or the more important. The name and location of the dashboard that will load when you boot with the chip on. If the bios you are trying to flash to the chip is named anything like Cromwell then stop now nad go look in the usual places for an actual bios. As the Cromwell will only allow you to do 2 things. 1. Flash the chip from a CD-RW placed in the XBOX drive or 2. Boot to a XBOX Linux distribution.
