What exactly does XBL look for when it determines if you are using a different BIOS or not?  Does it only check the checksum?  If this is all it checks would it not be possible to force the valid checksum to a hacked BIOS?  I'm just throwing stuff out there.  If anyone does know what it searches for please post it.

i'm sure it has been made clear that none of the teams will even consider "hacking live." it's great the way it is (ie. minimum cheaters, scammers, etc).

As far as checksum, it might be CRC32, or they may be reading a hash value like MD5 or SHA-1. If it is SHA-1, forget about cracking it.

Trying to force a checksum or hash on a file period is damn near improbable. I'm not sure about CRC32 or MD5, but SHA-1 is, if I'm not mistaken, birthday attack-proof (or at least resistant)...that kills off a faster way of finding two known values that produce the same hash. All I will say is that it most likely won't happen in at least our lifetime.

Thanks guys, that's all I needed to know.  It's kind of a bummer.  I don't feel like paying fifty bucks for XBL and THEN another 70 bucks for a damn game.  I mean, I don't mean to sound like a theif (which I guess I am) but I've downloaded too many games that retail for 60 or 70 bucks that are NOT worth it and to pay that much just to play with a bunch of idiot 14 year olds is just not worth 130 bucks of my student loans.  I see where you guys don't want XBL hacked because of cheaters, but admit it, we're getting brown-eyed with the cost of games here and the occasional occurence of cheaters would be well worth being able to play our backups.   I don't want to cheat, I just want to see if I can kick some ass in Project Gotham 2, legitamately.

You know there are tunneling networks that let you play backups, so why not use them?  As far as downloading your games, I hope I'm never in a game with you while you're playing with stolen property.

Copying and stealing are two different things.
Both can be illegal, though.
