Xbl Not Working (mod Disabled) ... 4980 To Blame?
« on: January 17, 2004, 08:39:00 AM »

Are you SURE you got a cable not connected error on all of the games you tested?  Maybe one slipped past.  Team Executer stated that they were not 100% sure it would work with all LIVE! titles.   There is a chance that you missed one and got banned.  Only way to be sure would be by getting another EEPROM and dump that in over your original. That is after backing up the original just to be safe.

BTW.  What error are you getting when trying to connect?

Keep us posted and good luck.

I would believe that you would get the typical ban message.   Unless M$ has changed their practices and just wait for you to call in with a problem.   Have you tried adding the boxes IP to a DMZ on your router?    Strangely enough I just had to reset my router today because it decided it was not going to let anything on my network get an outside connection.

same here.. after testing the 4980.06 with rainbowsix 3.. x2.2 lite modchip enabled..blocked out live..

then i disabled the modchip and try to log onto xbox live  through the retail dvd..  wont connect.. ask me to go into troubleshoot network

IP was found
DNS was found
cannot find xbox live service

i tried to set it on auto detect..

IP was found
DNS was found
Cannot find xbox live service..

would give the normal suggestions of

If you are using a router make sure the router is Xbox Live compatible etc..
If you are using a router make sure the MTU settings are above 1350 etc..

the night before i upgrade to the new bios i was playing RB6-3 fine with the modchip off

*edit*
nevermind..  my DMZ was enabled which cause the cannot find XBOX LIVE SERIVCE error...
SoloTSi97> if you are connecting through a router make sure your DMZ is off and it should connect fine.

I have the same exact problem as you guys.  I found out I've been banned, so I start using the 4980 bios.  I've reflashed my eeprom 3 times, with one that I know for sure is not banned, but when I try to connect with my original bios on, it says I'm banned or has trouble connecting.

Just by chance do you have a backup of your M$ Dash from before the 4980 mishap?   Have you tried replacing the M$ Dash on the box with the backup just in case the 4980 Live hack somehow corrupted a portion of the Live section of the dash and that is in turn causing the problem.  I know the 4980 hack is supposed to patch it in memory but maybe it went a little too far.  It's worth a shot.

I have something for you to try....  It is possible that the files to go onto live where cached on the drive and those very files have been altered to not let you go their....   Try deleting everything in E:cache, and your X, Y, Z partitions...  It can't hurt anything...  If that doesn't work then try a back up of your Original MS Dash....   It does sound very software orientated to me...

Yes you can copy the content of his C: partition and use it to replace yours provided that
1. His has not had any Dash hacks applied to it.

2. His boots properly with the MOD OFF.

I know this may sound strange, but have you guys made sure your HDD is LOCKED and didn't get somehow UNLOCKED? Just A Thought.

Well, I flashed my brother's EEPROM and copied the contents of his hard drive (after newly formatting mine).  No change.  I'm leaning more and more toward hardware or something.

I think I'm going to take the box apart, remove the chip, reinstall the original HDD (basically returning it to "stock") and see what happens.  If nothing else, it'll be all original when/if 2nd level support calls back.

Failing that ... I'll start looking for a "has problems reading discs" Xbox on ebay to scavenge parts from ... :-/

Can anyone confirm that 4980 is causing a problem like this? I really want to upgrade but if its gonna be acting up like this with the mod disabled then i will be afraid to update.

does it at least work for some of you? unsure.gif

How did it end? Did your xbox find live again?
I am a litle bit afraid to use 4980/1 until I know that
its safe... any progress?

I have the same problems as everyone else here and i did all the suggestions, but to no effect.
THen i replaced my original HDD and live was working again as usual.
So must be a problem with the new HDD!
