Weird Bios Problem.
« on: January 12, 2004, 02:11:00 PM »

I was fixing 2 xboxes who's eeproms were accidentally blanked.  The boxes would not boot, no sound, no video.  The leds would flash green once then red flashing about 20 times then turned off.  I used the eeprom restore bios (cromwell) and it said "eeprom restore: success!".   Then i went and put the 4979.06 chips in them and got the same red flashing.  I pulled my hair out for 2 days trying to figure out what I was not doing right.  I flashed the chips about 5 times each, checked solder joints, everything.  Then I was about to walk out the door today and figured what the hell, I'll try out this last chip I  had layin around.  Turns out it was an old as hell chip that still had 4977 on it.  It worked!?!?!?!?  WTF?  I've read of some issues with 4979 and old boxes but these are a 1.3 and 1.5 box.  If anyone has a clue please post cuz i dont get it.
