technically you are asking "what bios should i use." you just rephrased the question.

personally, i don't believe one bios is more "stable" over the other. i think it's basically down to what features you want/need.

Hey dude, from what I've read, the X2 4980 BIOS is pretty sweet and it disables LIVE which is a BIG plus. Since you already had a problem with LIVE, you'll probably wanna use 4980. I'm gonna use 4980 when my X2 2.3b Pro comes in the mail.
