X2 4980 Question (LBA related)
« Reply #1 on: January 05, 2004, 03:15:00 PM »

Alrighty...I couldn't find an answer anywhere I looked, so here goes:

I flashed my TSOP with the Evox D.6 BIOS. I have a 160GB drive in my xbox, and I'm only using 137GB of it (no support for the higher LBA mode).

I do not want to reformat my F: drive or use the extra few GBs, so which 4980 BIOS should I install?  (4980.06 or 4980.67)

Will either BIOS corrupt my F: partition?

Thank you!

Ive flashed my xbox with the 4979.06 after i modified it wrongly, My xbox would boot without my F and just pretty much retail style of hard drive settings i fixed it quickly and it showed up with the new flash i dont think it will reformat your hard drive but if not you can ask on the teamXecuter forum since they are the ones who made the bios  wink.gif

you want the .67 that means a partition 6 and a partition 7
you will have to have all the latest programs with the G drive support for this

*edit no need to check the teamxecutor forums as i'm a forum support person there
but feel free to post there in the future

it's says specifically in the readme file. try looking at it. 06 = one large F partition. 67 = F drive up to 137GB and G drive is everything that is left over.

look at the readme that comes with it. 4980.06 for one large F drive. 4980.67 for a F drive up to 137GB and a G drive that takes anything past 137GB. the choice is up to you.

I just received my X2.3b Lite Plus a couple of hours back. In the process of flashing the 4980 bios. I'm intending to replace the stock Seagate hd to a WD 80G drive. Which bios is more suitable? Secondly, can I use my new HD instead of the stock drive for the flashing? I need to keep the stock hd as a spare in case something goes wrong.

Any pointers?

READ THE README!!!  For God's sake it's titled as such to make it idiotproof.

If you have an 80GB hard drive it does not matter in the slightest.  The only difference is in how the kernels handle drives larger than 137GB.

And yes, you can put your new drive in the Xbox prior to flashing the BIOS.

You have to put a whole bunch of files on the drive.  It's best to install your chip, FTP the contents of the C and E partitions to your PC, and FTP them back to the new drive after you've formatted it in EvoX.

one quick question i been wondering, dunno if this is a stupid question or not lol. I know .06 is for one large F: partition and .67 is for 137GB f: and rest on G:, but say I have a 160GB harddrive, and I use the .06 BIOS, will I have a 160GB F: drive or will i have a 137gb f: drive and i not be able to use the remainder?

xBanana...

I've never seen a readme file included with a BIOS, so the only thing I (and I'm assuming others here) have to go on is the X2 release file posted at xbox-scene.com, which makes no attempt at explaining the differences between the 06 and 67.

Get the BIOS for a reliable source, ie: xbins, and you'll have a readme file.

Use the 06 BIOS if you want to reformat your f: drive into something bigger than 137GB.

Use the 67 BIOS if you're afraid of damaging your current F.  With the 67 BIOS, you can add a G: partition.

There's no way to "stretch" your F drive without losing everything in it.

I believe that's right.

if using 06 and (re)formatting your F drive (for lba48 support), you should have 150GB or so on F (minus actual calculations and system partitions). you shouldn't be limited to 137GB on F unless you use 67.

you like your partitions just the way they are, so which bios should you use?

the answer is...

it doesn't matter.  when you flash your bios, it does not re-format your hard drive.  it does nothing to alter your current partitions...so relax...either version of 4980 is fine.

the questions you should ask yourself now are...

do i want a bogus G drive showing up in my file managers?  in the future, if/when you re-format your drive, do you want 1 big F or a big F and big G?  the README should tell you what to do depending on your answers.
