try to find the "hacked" version of the mega x-key software that lets you use other thunmbdrives.
Or do this:

The reason you want to "make your own" is really to save a few bucks right? Why spend 29.99 on a MS memory card when you can buy a cheapo no name thrustmaster memory card for 14.00 i hear some places you can buy ms memory cards for 25.00 bucks but even still being able to use a cheap o memory card should save you at least 10 bucks so here are the steps to get said "cheap-o-memory card"to work with Action replay drivers.

1. Get usbview.exe google it it's easy to find.
2. Attach your thumbdrive
3. pee
4. Once the "found new device" warning pops up open up usbview.exe do not install drivers!
5. You should find an unnamed "device" connected right with your xbox controler select this pane and look for "idVendor" and "idProduct".
6. Go to where you installed Action replay and inside the folder "drivers" open up the file "xbreader.inf" with notepad or txtpad in there find the sectiong that has this:

[_Devices]

%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_05FD&PID_DBAE
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_05FD&PID_0316
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_045E&PID_0280
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_0738&PID_4507
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_040B&PID_6520

Take note of "VID"=idVendor "PID"=idProduct!
wow how simple was that?
7.copy the last line and paste it on the next empty line so it should look like this

%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_05FD&PID_DBAE
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_05FD&PID_0316
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_045E&PID_0280
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_0738&PID_4507
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_040B&PID_6520
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_040B&PID_6520
8. Replace the lines info with what USBview gives you for instance my 14.00 cheap-o-memory card info was this:
idVendor 044F
idProduct 0F0C
so the last line should look like
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_044F&PID_0F0C

so now your segment should look like this

%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_05FD&PID_DBAE
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_05FD&PID_0316
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_045E&PID_0280
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_0738&PID_4507
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_040B&PID_6520
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_044F&PID_0F0C

9. Save the file and try to make windows search for the driver again!
10. Use your 10.00 to 15.00 saved to buy a copy of 007:AUF!

thanks to:well I cant remember

I have a 128 MB USB flash drive and a USB to Xbox chord. I am trying to get the Mechinstaller with Evo that I got from xbins, onto the my USB flsh drive so that I can put on my xbox. I have tried to use Action Replay and Mega X Key but I guess they don't work with my bigger cappacity USB flash drive. If you know how to make these programs to work or any other programs that I could you I would really apprieciate it. I really want to get this done.

Thanks

Unfortunately there isn't any really good way.

Is it detected in the XBox? Try formatting it first and try again with Action Replay...MegaXKey is patched to only allow 32Mb flash drives.

Other than that there isn't any real good way.

Yes it is recognized by the xbox, and it is formatted, but Action replay still wont recognize it. How big of a card does Action Replay support? There has got to be someway to do it.
My friend has a softmodded xbox that he can ftp to but he uses a different installer. Is there a way that I could ftp the file to his xbox and then put it onto a memory card? If  so what folder would I have to put it in, etc..
Thanks

I have a thumbdrive im looking to use for memory storage instead of buying a memory card. I was thinking about getting the adapter from MS used with phantasy star online, but its on back order until july. The connector inside the controller has 5 pins, and I was wondering if anybody knew a way to just take a USB cable, cut it open, and wire it to the controller. Also, is there any way i could just wire the dongle on the end of the controller as a USB port to plug USB devices into the xbox? I have an unmodded xbox, and I was trying to think of ways to do this. I know you can wire the dongle to plug USB devices into the xbox directly, but I didnt know if a memory device, like my thumbdrive, had to go through the controller to be recognized, or if i could just plug it into the xbox through this wiring. So basically, can i plug it in directly and have it recognize, or does it need to go through a controller, and if it does, is there any way to wire that?

Ive been experimenting with this You might want to try this:

From information in this thread I was able to do the following on a Flash USB Device without using Xbox controller:

PC OS = Windows 2000 SP4 - Did NOT install XCTRL device driver

1) Attach Flash USB device to XBOX using USB conversion cable.
2) XBOX detected and erased the card.
3) Attached "XBOX FORMATTED" Flash device to PC.
4) Download USBIO Demo software from: http://www.thesycon.de/eng/index.htm
5) Install USBIO software up to the point of telling you the VID and PID IDs, then cancel out of install – Still determining if it actually installed much.
6) Download Action Replay software 1.20 from http://us.codejunkie...box_1_20_US.exe
7) Install the Action Replay software
8) Modify the file C:\Program Files\Datel\ActionReplay Xbox\Drivers\xbreader.inf to include the new VID & PID information in the [_Devices] section, in my case it was: %S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USBVID_0892&PID_0301
9) Right click on "My Computer", select manage, Select "Device Manager". Open USB Controllers and select your USB device. Normally "Generic USB mass storage device".
10) Right click on it and select Properties
11) Select Driver Tab.
12) Select Update Driver, select Next, Select Search and hit Next, only tick Specify Location, and browse to "C:\Program Files\Datel\ActionReplay Xbox\Drivers" select the xbreader.inf and hit Open. If the VID and PID are correct then it will update the driver to an "Action Replay XBox"
13) Run Action Replay which should now see the "Action Replay Memory Card" and allow save game transfer.
