Samsung Sd-616t Problem?
« on: February 27, 2004, 07:55:00 PM »

check the trouble shooting section of my 616T tutorial on www.hardmods.net

also verrify the steps you took in the mod to accomplish it. I have a feeling your trayin and trayout are backwards... check my tut. If you put a disk in the drive and turn the xbox off with it in the drive does it pop the disk out then turn off? If so your trayin and trayout are backwards.

Moose.. I just did the same damn thing.. The exact same thing..  I tried to desolder the eject and the trayout points and accidently pulled up the metal that you solder to.. Mother _ucka!!!!!!!  Now what to do.. There must be a way to repair the points so that we can finish this damn mod. I'm pretty good at soldering but I guess my solder iron didnt get hot enough... Its just funny how we both just did the same thing..  beerchug.gif

for tray in and tray out there is a very easy solder point on the front circuit board,

look at the drive from the front, have it turned so you see the bottom of the pcb where the ribbon cable is soldered to it on right half,

now look towards the left side of the pcb, where the hole is that that little plastic piece hooks onto it and holds it down, there are two solder pads just to the left of that hole, below those two solder pads are two more, those are your tray ins and tray outs, use a multimeter to see which one is which by testing them to the ribbon cable,

You can also find eject i believe somewhere near the eject button on the front pcb too like i said just use a multimeter off the known pin on the ribbon cable for eject and start probing around till you find continuity.

I cant really tell you which ones are which because everytime i do it i just test it with a meter from the original points you guys broke off so im unsure exactly what pins on the ribbon cable belong to what.

and make sure you have the right two pads for the tray in and tray out......  on the multimeter you will get a reading on the other two pads near it because they are connected via resistors.   so when your trying to find tray in and tray out make sure the readings are 0 or near it.

trayout is the left one in that picture, trayin is obviously the other one. when probing for an eject point the closest I get is something with 99 ohm resistance

directly left from the points there is a pad with a label SW701 EJECT + on it which is giving me the 99 ohm resistance, makes sense this may be the pad... being labeled eject and all.

ok i went and opened my drive so i could get the real eject point the one you found is running through 100 ohm resistor give me 5 minutes to update the pic with the real eject point to solder to

edit:  ok check the picture again i circled the eject pad.

with those three points anyone with any kind of soldering skills should be able to modify the 616T  since the m1 is a nice solid point to solder to also it makes it a piece of cake, just solder off to those wires and piggy back them across the ribbon cable with some tape and use the regular m1 point.
