What does the Fan-Speed Setting do? Will the fan be off if i set it to 0 (so my box would get burned)?

You could set it to off, but I made the minumum 10 (which from my tests appears to be the default value).

Hmmm... if the "Fan Control" is documented somewhere (Not sure I want to dig through GentooX to find it), likely done through the PIC controller, I'll add it to Media X Menu (MXM)

smile.gif Someone named "Evil Clowns" emailed me about it a couple of days ago. With oz_paulb's kernel expansion, adding it was pretty easy (once I got the kernel expansion and LBA48 code separated).

I've written a little companion app (found in the usual places) for testing fan speeds. You can use it to change the speed, but you'd have to run it each time the machine was started. Maybe the option will be added to dashboard apps.

Don't want to bust your bubble but my fan died after a day... I spent like 10 hours playing kotor then the next day the fan worked for 5mins then died.

It doesn't mean that it'll happen to every single fan, maybe I was unlucky (1.0 xbox made in november 2001), but it doesn't hurt to be careful. Maybe instead of setting it to 50, leave it at 35-40.

Anyway, just stole a stealth fan from an old ass compaq and it's working great now, so no worries here wink.gif

// read it
HalReadSMBusValue( 0x20, 0x10, 0, &speed );

// write it
HalWriteSMBusValue( 0x20, 0x06, 0, speed );

// enable user specified speed
HalWriteSMBusValue( 0x20, 0x05, 0, 1 );

Thanks... ShallaX got back to me as well.

It will be in the next Bug Fix Release...
