One thing I would like to know is how to create a CD/DVD that will run on an unmodified XBox.  (But I am sure that would get someone in trouble with MS  flamethrower.gif ).

Now in this case I can play the it-won't-work card.  It's quite simple to get a disc to boot on a modded system, but you want it to be done without any modification to the console?

That is akin to asking how to use a 300GB drive in the Xbox with no modification to the kernel.

You're the man!

I guess we're gonna have to make another huge HDD compatability list for locking and unlocking huh?   biggrin.gif

Probably need to go ahead and make a nice sticky home for it.   biggrin.gif

I think Wayne and Garth summed it up...

A great hack - i did some investigating - PaulB anything to do with the TiVO scene by any chance wink.gif

Nope.  Although I've done some reading of Tivo hack forums in the past (interesting stuff!), I haven't ever done any hacking on one (I don't even own a Tivo - I'm waiting for the DirecTV version of Tivo with HDTV support).

the recent TiVO LBA48 hack a similar concept - all great stuff smile.gif

i look forward to receiving the sources and having a play

thanks again bro - real good work

smile.gif You should get a cut from the hdd makers for this as is bound to give them a nice boost in large disk sales wink.gif

May I ask what the chances are of you flexing your skilz in adding 2 hard disk support? (No DVD ROM, but two disks connected) Sorry if this has been asked before, but im sure someone said it was 'impossible' biggrin.gif

This was asked before, and I said that I'd look into it once I get some more time.

I have thought about it for a bit (without looking at the code), and think that it would be a significant amount of work (not straightforward).  Of course, nothing is impossible - but it could be a huge effort for all I know.

I'll take a look at it sometime in the near future.

Thanks a Gig. Paul!  I'm a newbie!  Just got my modchip in the mail 2 days ago and got my Maxtor 300GB HDD yesterday (good prices at Outpost.com).  It took me a while, especially finding the right media to do the install, but nevertheless I loaded the chip and the new HDD!  Thanks to you I now have a whopping 291 GB free on my drive and I look forward to filling it all the way up!  Ordering it before I could find out if it would lock was a small risk,  but I figured all new Maxtor drives were lockable and I guessed right!  Anyway, thanks again!

OZ Paulb I can only show my agreement to what has already been explained. I was impressed by how you ignored the bullshitters that took the piss/flamed when you started investigating it. Those people know who they are and have been shamed!

I also agree that this is the latest great hack to keep the scene alive.

Big up my man.
