Fix For 4978 Bios And X2lite Chips
« Reply #15 on: August 23, 2003, 07:38:00 AM »

Managed to get the xbox to play nice and fixed the issue, i managed to use another method of fixing the bios other than the one posted here.

Xecuter, I dont doubt your bios programming ability but maybe in future if the filenames were more clearly labeld as an ALPHA / BETA maybe users wouldn't go "ooooh a new bios, lets get it right now".

Some people live for updates to software, firmware etc... and that is why they perhaps dont always read something properly. Never the less the problem CAN be fixed so people with x2lites dont worry, it is easy to fix.

anyway, i am not flaming any individuals, i was annoyed, upset and yes... slightly p'd off but I am ok now, just hope the rest of you find the fixes useful that people have posted.

regards.

When I attempt to do this fix I get a couple of errors. When I try to boot with the chip off and boot from the Free-Xevox CDRW I get an error code 5. I turn my chip back on then put in the CDRW to flash my chip back to 4977 and I then get error code 16. I am familar with the codes, but dont understand how it is supposed to boot from these cds. I followed the above procedures step-by-step and several times, any reason why this is not working?

You are getting error 16 because you are probablly using a larger HD and it is not locked. I even attempted to use my original 8GB Drive and I didnt get error 16, instead I got 5, which is a dashboard related error. If my larger hard driver were locked maybe this method would work, but since my new drive isnt locked and my old drive has the old dashboard naming, I am going to either have to wait for another way to fix this or for my external programmer to get here quick hehe.

QUOTE ("maxconsole tech help information re: x2lite bad-flash on x2 4978")

1) turn on xbox with the modchip disabled

2) when you enter the default ms dash switch the mod back on.

3) when you have did this open the dvd tray by pressing the eject button.

4) now close the tray again it should boot you to the XBOX Logo and MS one.

5) press eject again and this will fire up XBOX LOGO and xecuter logo.

6) evox should now boot, simply get ftp'd in and flash with an older working bios.

hope this also helps people having problems.

ThX

Note:
(this is not to Sektor3 first post, i can understand his reaction wink.gif (-> Love ur Xbox- T-Shirt Design) but to all those other who always complaining about stuff (You will Know for yourself who You are)
To all who complain, THINK TWICE,  dry.gif  those ppl saves you lot's of money with the modchip (go buy a DIVX comp. DVD Player, Go Buy all the games you rip (personal backup (héhé)) wel to all who complain, donate the money you saved to Team X-Ecuter (who, the will be rich guys then) Damned, if you freaking ppl complain about free stuff and this for a modchip you can buy for 50 Euro (around) that's cheaper then a xbox game or a Top notch movie on dvd.

I Flashed the bios, i knew it was alpha, i fucked my x-ecuter 2.2 lite, i complained to myself for fucking around with a alpha bios   mad.gif  and ordered a programmer (can always use it anyway) it was my own fault i fucked up, so why trashing ppl who didn't touch ur modchip/xbox, Anyway there is now a cheap simple solution with only a few presses away to fix it smile.gif  love.gif
(Damned i love those Hackers all around (Whatever Console system it is))  jester.gif   beerchug.gif

ok so i need a programmer then cool thanks ill order one right now i dont have a extra chip to be able to swapflash it

Thanks

Not a problem.  Just to clarify, you're either experiencing a bad flash or an incorrect RC4 key (EvoX 2.6 on a 1.1+ Xbox).  What we're discussing regarding 4978 on an X2 Lite is "tricking" the X2 Lite to make the full 1024K available instead of 512K.

Anyone have an ETA on the "finalized" x2_4978 build?  Lookin forward to the 512k version, small enough to fit on X2Lites (without having to reboot a few times).

No idea, but expect it to have a new build number, because to get it down to 512K they're going to have to either code a new FTPd or use a smaller FTP XBE when embedding it into the kernel.  Maybe 4978.1 or something?

*sign*
the cheap mod would have to be 512k *not many out there* and even if the cheap mod was 512k if you know what your doing your sure as hell can recover.
