Fix For 4978 Bios And X2lite Chips
« on: August 23, 2003, 05:01:00 AM »

For ppl like me who trashed their x2 lite chips flashing with 4978 bios (yeah, yeah sticks and stones) here is a fix I stumbled upon :-

1. Make a "Free-Xevox" xbox cd and load with x2 lite switched off.
2. It should freeze up ya box cos it's looking for the font hacks (which aren't there).
3. Switch ya chip back on and hit the eject button.
4. Should now reboot into 4978 bios.
5. Now reflash back to 4977 and next time read up b4 u flash (hehe)

PS. did it twice to confirm it works, experiment with the above slighlty if it don't work 4 u.

peace out

If it works, fantastic.  But I guess I'm a little confused as to why that would force the MCPX to grab the full 1024K instead of 512K.

I dunno why it works, I just stumbled across this trying to load the font hack in an attempt rescue my xbox from the bad flash.

the 4978 bios does seems to work in my x2 lite chip (including ftp), just not from cold boot.

This may be of some help to the programmers in solving this problem.

Good luck   rolleyes.gif

yep this works - thanks for posting

we've pretty much found the bug anyway and will rls a corrected version when we get the chance

also working on getting it packed to 512k, shouldnt be too hard - the difficult bit was embedding xbe into the kernel

ubergeek, I am on about the untested bios which has taken my mod and other people's mods and made them as usable as a remote control without battery's.

If the x2lite wasn't tested my friend, why didnt the NFO state that X2LITE users DO NOT USE THIS BIOS AS IT HAS NOT BEEN TESTED ON THE MOD IN QUESTION!.

fine, it was experimental, like all build's are.... but no warning of fragging. Quality or speed of release I feel.

Man, I can't believe how many people complain about something that is given to them for free.

I think that everyone that screwed up their X2lites with this BIOS release should refer back to this warning every time they download ANY SOFTWARE for the xbox in the future.

"WARNING!  This is beta software.  Use at your own risk!"

Because if your not thinking this everytime you install software, ESPECIALLY A BIOS, then your a fool.  Your not paying for this software, and Team X-ecuter has no obligation to test anything before they release it to the world for free.  If you can't recover from a bad flash, you should never flash your BIOS with any BIOS until it's been released for a few days.  That's just common sense.

Flagg in most cases i would agree with you but you would have thought the executor team would have at least tested the bios on chips that they had released. It's not like x2lite is some unknown chip by some unknown manufacturer. It is made by the guys who released the bios.

Anyway no point bashing them about it. sektor3 To say you deserve a refund it a bit harsh. Never flash your bios unless you have a way of recovering it. This has been stated many times on the forums.

Finally A1patriot good find smile.gif

Sounds something I will have to try to save my xbox...until my programmer gets here, but one question for you all, what's "Free-Xevox" Cd?

Should the Xbox still give me an error 16 screen if I use the Free-X Evox boot cd? Or is that a bad burn? I made an xiso with extract-xiso from the Free-X Evox directory. Thanks

BTW

You cannot modify the colors of the 4978 bios using Xbtool. I returns it back to GREEN. and on boot partitions and executables only xboxdash.xbe is there in XBtool. pretty sure an new 4978 bios will fix that problem.
