Kind of a far reach, but ...
Is it at all possible for a BIOS (ie, a modified Cromwell) to unload itself while loading another BIOS?
For instance, could a custom (modified cromwell perhaps) bios loaded on the first 256k of a 1mb bank dump itself and load a bios in the second, third, or fourth 256k?
I'm a total noob when it comes to the logistics of BIOS, but it would be quite cool to have a 1mb bios setup with this modified BIOS in the first 256, a stock MS BIOS in the second, and a hacked (X2 or whatever) in the third thus allowing for a multi-boot and possibly 'live-safe' mod chip installation. Hell, even if it isn't live-safe, it'd be nice to be able to load Linux, or boot to a hacked BIOS / Load a dashboard with no switches.
