try booting evox from cd and RENAME xboxdash.xbe to evoxdash.xbe and origxboxdash.xbe to msxboxdash.xbe

this is because ( i suspect) it searches for the 1st .xbe in aphabetical order, in this case the original dashboard and since it is renamed to a diferent file there will be a load of references to the wrong file (though i might be wrong).

anyway boot from cd and rename as stated above.

EDIT : oops forgot to add file extentions

hmmm

doing some research i discovered that error 16 means that some of the dashboard files are missing, corrupted or whatever

i dunno try changing your bios with xbtool to boot the xbox dashboard with its new filename

strange problem considering if your bios is intact you should be able to boot the DVD drive without a hard drive installed (to my knowledge)

try

changing the bios with the newest version of xbtool
or
disconnecting the hard drive and then try booting your exox disk
or
upgrade to the newest xecuter bios if you don't have 4977
