Questions About Flashing Bios To 4976.02
« on: May 29, 2003, 09:33:00 AM »

I have never flashed any kind of BIOS whether PC or XBOX related so I have a few questions.
The main reason I am upgrading my bios to xecuter 4976.02 is that I want to get rid of the media check and also to be able to run the xbox without the A/V cables.
I understand about putting the .bin files in the BIOS folder. Oh yea I'm using EvoX latest version to flash too.

1. What are the odds of a bad flash happening? Is the only way a bad flash can happen is if the power turns off?
2. In the program xbox tools there is a kernel md5 and bios md5 does xecuter 2 have a website to verify these numbers?
3. Can you reflash the bios with the same .bin file? Example flash from 4976.02 to 4976.02.  Just in case I decide I want to get rid of the xbox intro thing.
4. How long does it take to flash the bios?
5. Doesn't the executer 2 bios come with 1mb of flash memory?
If so can you put 2 512 or 4 256 bioses?
How do you go about putting 2 bioses in the chip?
6. I have a 256k .bin file and a 1mb .bin file which one should i use for the xecuter 2 bios if i am only going to use 1 bios?
7. Is it safe to use xbox tools to get rid of animation?

Basically I want to know if the benifits outway the costs. the main reason i am upgrading is that I dont want to have to patch all the new games that I get. I dont mind doing this but if flashing the bios is a real breeze and its fairly safe then ill do it.
Thank you to whoever reads this. I may sound like a noob but please bare with me.  Once I learn this stuff maybe i can be of use to someone else.

I don't have a statistic, but it is possible. Power is one,  a bad or corrupted read/write could lead to a flash failure.

Not sure if Team Xecuter has a verification for the md5, but here is a listing of hash'es for Evox if you decide that you need them: BIOS/hash list

Yes you can. The way I typically do it is take a virgin BIOS and modify it. Then I take that modified BIOS and load it in the first two 256k banks, and take the virgin BIOS and load it in banks 3 and 4 - and save as a 1MB bin file - just in case my newly modified BIOS is bad, I can then switch the bank to the virgin one.

From Evox, about 15 - 20 seconds.

The X2 Pro and Lite have a total capacity of 1MB.

Pro = 4x256k independant. The Lite = 2x512k independant. To put two BIOSes on an x2lite using X2MB, you would load two of the same 256k bin files in the first to banks, and two of another in banks three and four - then save as a 1MB bin file.

I would build a 1MB bin file from the 256k one by loading it in each bank and saving as a 1MB bin.

Nothing is safe if you don't know what you are doing. Some BIOSes will allow you to change the lettering under the X, and others won't. Safe, sure, if you know what you are doing.

I flash my x2lite all the time with different BIOSes and have never had a problem. I would not hesitate to upgrade to 4976.02 - it is very easy from Evox

Ok thanks all that info was a great help.
I opened up Xbox tools and then hit open and selected the Xecuter 2 BIOS 4976.02 256K.
I unchecked animation and then i hit save size as 1MB.
I then hit save as and named it.
Now all i have to do is put it in the BIOS folder on my xbox and then flash from evo x?
Is that correct?

I heard you cant change the colors of the xbox intro with any xecuter bios? what happens if you change them with xbox tools and then flash it? will it not work at all or will the colors just not change?

Hey its all good. I successfully flashed to 4976.02.
But under evo-x settings it says
Bios version: unknown
Kernel version: 1.00.4976.02

How do I get Bios version to show up?
