4976.02 + Evox D6
« on: May 21, 2003, 01:26:00 PM »

Hello all,
I would like to create a 1 mb bios by combining 4976.02 and Evox D6 using Xbtool and XB memory manager so I can have two different bioses and switch between the two.  I have a vers. 1 box.
Has anyone done this before? Is evox D6 compatible with Version 1 box? Do i need a RC4 key to modify Evox D6 bios? I need these questions answered before I proceed. Thanks in advance!

Just use X2 BIOS Manager and fill the first 2 x 256K banks with one and the second 2 x 256K banks with the other.  Both of the BIOS versions are MultiVer.  You're not making any modification to the BIOSes, so no RC4 key is needed (I don't think you'd need one anyway).

This is probably a silly question but why would you need to switch between bios's? Doesn't Xectuter 2 - 4976.02 do everything Evox D6 does?

a lot of reason.. 1st You can have two different color boot screen. second, only evox d.6 allows you to change the logo (i.e MS) under big x logo. Third, if you have kids and you dont want them to play mature games or mess up your setting you can set up a different menu and just have "Games" available. You should try this..its cool..  I cant get the avalaunch to boot when i switch to second bank though. i tried renaming the avalaunch xbe to evoxdash.xbe but it wont boot.

EDIT: typos

So it wouldn't need to be D6, you could just have two different coloured 4976.02 BIOS's? Except if you want to change the MS logo.

Yes thats right.. smile.gif

biggest point for me is that the d.6 ejectfix works while the x2 4976.02 doesn't

Maybe the one you got is bad  wink.gif

It works perfectly for me, and has since the day it came out.

EDIT: Re-read your post, maybe you meant that the Ejectfix part works on Evox and doesn't on X2.. Well, the Ejectfix can't not work on the X2, because it doesn't exist on it smile.gif

that's what i meant.evox ejectfix works but x2 doesn't and if you look at the bios comparison chart you'll see that eject fix is implemented in the x2 bios.

x2 eject fix only works if the developer of the app made support for it.
