Thanks very much for the reply.  I don't have an xbox now, but would get one if I could build system that can archive and play music dvd's, etc...  So I am a newbie and very much appreciate the help...

One more question, I haven't been able to find screenshots or much documentation of dvd2xbox.  Is it fairly easy to use (it's not for me but for some relatives of mine)?  Can it store files in directory structures that are compatible with where XBMP?  I can't imagine why it wouldn't, but it's hard to figsure this out with just the info available on it's website.

Is there another site that has some screen shots of DVD2XBOX?  Or more documentation on it's use and configuration?

Thanks very much for the help!

Mike

dvd2xbox just dumps the contents of the dvd onto the hard drive, the interface is dirt simple.

XBMP and XBMC have configurable UI, playlists, tons of features.

Is DVD2Xbox simple enough that a novice could use it to rip a CD's contents to the hard drive and use CDDB to lookup tag info for the ogg files so they display nicely in XBMP?

Thanks,
Mike

DVD2Xbox is not meant as a CD ripping tool (hell, will it even rip a CD?  I know it does games and DVD movies).  There is no real solution to ripping audio CDs on the Xbox yet; you can use the MS Dash to rip to WMA, but who the hell wants to do that?!  Convert the audio on your computer (www.dbpoweramp.com is my favorite tool), and then FTP the audio over to your Xbox.  It will be much quicker, probably have better quality, and it definetly will have a cleaner interface than anything on the Xbox that could do it.

Well, that's what I would do, but my non-tech saavy sister and brother-in-law have never used FTP in their lives.  It may not work quite as well, but if there is a simple way to rip CD's on the xbox, that would mean I could build an XBMP system for them and they would be VERY happy.  I can be there to do the initial rips for them, but I don't wnat to have to guide them through the process every time they get a new CD.

Many of use have non-tech relatives who use consumer electronics very well, but have issues with computers.  My sis and brother-in-law have a replay TV DVR and love it, but it's petty easy to use. But anytime they do something to change their network config at home, I get a call about settings and such.  So I really need a ripping solution that is very easy and integrates into XBMP well...

That's why I was looking at DVD2XBOX.  That it rips to ogg is really not that important.  It'll only be accessed by XBMP anyways...

It would so SO GREAT of DVD2XBOX's functionality was integrated into XBMP!  I'd hack at least half a dozen xbox's as gifts if it was implemented well.

Thanks,
Mike
