Correct Partition Sizes For 300gb Hdd
« on: March 26, 2005, 08:51:00 PM »

Hey Everyone,

I recently purchased a 300gig WD hdd for my box.

Now I flashed it with  Slayer's x2's .06 And it put the rest on the F drive leaving roughly around 270+ gigs on F drive.

Now I've been reading the boards and checking on the net and have come accross this (if you have more than 250+ on a partition it will corrupt eventually).

Loosing my data is always a concern, besides backing up I'd rather not loose the actual data to corruption on a drive if I can avoid it.

Now my question is this:

Can you successfully have 270gigs on the F drive without corruption?
If so how many success stories out there for this.   And whats the proper way to keep it maintained correctly.

I'd rather not parition it , keeping the drive intact.

But if there is a definate need for the G, whats the correct size or "objective" parition size for the G:.

Also what would be the best choice to do these partitions in terms of applications.

I've been using the Auto-Installer Deluxe but I've been having issues  getting the correct sizes on my partitions they seem to default to 125gig or so on the F and the rest on the G.

Please let me know, I'd like to avoid future corruption problems by any means possible.

Thanx for you time guys :)

.67 bioses will put about 125 on f:\ and about 165 on g:\..  This would be 100% safe.  I'd do it before you end up with alot of data to deal with..  All you need to do is change your bios and reformat f: and g:..

I also had a problem with my 300 GB HDD, this is what I did and I got my full space (One big F drive) :

1) Format the HDD (I used my modchip to do that; SmartXX v2)

2) Get Evtool and edit EvoX M8+ and select the "Partition 6 Takes the Rest of the Drive"

3) Get the latest Xbpartitoner and apply the 32k Cluster to Partiton 6

4) When done you should have 292 GB on the F drive (8 GB for the xbox)

Bingo.  With 32k sized clusters, you can have as big an F: drive as you want.

Well, for the time being that is, as there are only a few really large IDE drives on the market right now (like that beautiful 400 gig Seagate ST3400832A B))

wow, thanx alot for the info guys.

Is there a specific version of xbox partitioner I should be using ? or does the  the 32k clusters option is included in all versions?

Thanx for the replies, you guys rock.

heh.....porn? =p well duh!

But mostly i wanted to put xbox games all of mame and my music and other emulators....heh I have issues =p.

Thanx again.

PS: I have Auto-Installer and been looking for that  setting to change it into 32k clusters, but to no avail.

I went to the help table and it shows ( Y ) to toggle cluster size but I must be doing something wrong because nothing is indicating my change.

Yeah, use XBpartitioner 1.0, from the xbins XBpartitioner_1.0.rar pack.

Then, read the XBpartitioner.nfo that comes with it (that's why it's there...).
