Yellow Flashing
« on: December 25, 2004, 02:21:00 PM »

Hi I recently tried to swap eeproms between two different boxes and after the procedure  I got yellow flashing.  I read somewhere that yellow flashing means that solder got on the board, but I checked very carefully, and couldn't find any.  Anyone know the cause of this, and how I could fix it?

well *if* you swaped 100% clean then it still coudl be a bad eeprom on the chip

otherwise check your work 5 times if your good at chip swaping and you got the tools then you prolly know what yoru dooing if this was your first one or a second then buy a new motherboard.

Well I put the other chip back on and the flashing still happened. What do you mean by first one or second?

as in if your experenced with resoldering a pogo chip to a motherboard then the issue might be with the actual contents of the EEPROM

however it looks like this might be yoru first attempt at it ... if you did this with a normal iron then your prolly screwed and you shoudl get a new motherboard and just keep this one to work on in the background.

from now on i reccomend changing eeprom with software.

I wish I could have just changed the eeprom with software, but my first mb died with my  upgraded hd so I was trying to swap the chip to retain the hd.  So now ive ruined two mbs  :)  What type of iron should I have used?

its beyond my experence but commonly you use a iron for placing chips you just heat the chip slightly and tap it into place

they look like a weird cookie cutter a tthe end of a iron it has a square the size of the chip and a vaccume to hold the chip in place. its $$ iron and special use so most people dont ahve theml.
