I used to have the same problem when I used Frontpage (default app) to edit the config.xml file. Instead use notepad or wordpad to edit config.xml file and you won't have that problem.

right click on the file and then use the open with .... option and choose notepad

You could always use a program called XBMPed to edit the settings. Once you get it set up it works sweet, and you can upload/download the settings directly withou having to touch the XML at all.

xbmped dont have all the new settings that are in the config.xml and thus you need to edit it manualy anyway if you want it set up right
