what version of xbmp are you using?

2.4 complex?

If so try the latest cvs release.

(have you tried it from dvd-r?)

Yea anything over 2gb and you are screwed, sucks....

8-24-2003

- webserver (./web dir and subdirs) http://ip.of.your.xbox/xbmp to get something more interesting

- fixed bug in getxbepath that sometimes prevented xbmp from running not as dash

- config.xml: added <cddaplayer> and <dvdplayer>

- config.xml: added <webserver>false</webserver>

8-09-2003

- use smaller cachesize for audio files

- fix memory leak for shoutcast

- config.xml: LED set to 5 (bios/default)

- config.xml: $HOME introduced throughout

- [ 771243 ] OGG tag's and small fixes for cddb and mp3 tags

- General Settings menu splitted; you can change page with the arrows - joy
left/right trigger or RW/FFW of remote control

- spindown tweak

- various other undocumented codec related changes

7-19-2003

Long time, eh? No problem. Here's what's new since last release (yep, some
are conflicting, but that's what is in the CVS notes):

- lang-1.xml added: <tuple>219,HD spindown while streaming video</tuple>

- Updated configuration file, added spindown option.

Can anyone confirm whether you can play something over 2 gig from the hdd?

I just tried it with XBMP 2.4 cvc compile xbins 8-24-03.zip and still the same thing.
When i look at the divx file through boXplorer it shows up as a negative file size as in -.
i couldnt possibly be the only one trying to use 2+ gig divx files sad.gif

Just been over to xboxmediaplayer.de and in the faq section it has this:
Q: Why can't XboxMediaPlayer read/play files larger than 4GB from the Xbox™ hard disk drive?
A: This is due to a Xbox™ limitation in the FAT-X format (not a XBMP issue that can be fixed).

So i gather from that it should be ok to use any file up to 4 gig right???

I read it that way.  I have a lot of Divx too and just assumed they would run.  Have you tried a different file.  Also which codec are you using - I'm not sure if the newest is supported.  Most of mine are 3.11.

QUOTE (doogal @ Aug 29 2003, 03:35 AM)
finally i have closure on this subject laugh.gif  Thanks Gamester17.

I'm not quite there yet..   wink.gif

I've done some testing.. and here is what i have found...

I have a 6.3 GB MPEG2 file (1.5 hours) that will only play 34 minutes..  (about 2.1 GB)..  and then it exits back to the menu..  (on a side note..  if i try to fast forward through the movie, the time moves all the way to 34 minutes, but the slider doesn't budge)..

I took that file and DIVX'd  (avi) it into three files (three separate attempts)..  one file at 4000 kbps, one file at 2000 kbps, and one file at 1200 kbps...

The first two (4000 and 2000kbs) don't play at all..  they just hang the system (black screen)..  they are well over 2.6 Gigs..  the third file (1200 kbps) which comes out to 2.02 GB plays (with a slight 7 second pause at the begining)..

When i gspot these files..  all three of them show the AVIs saved as "OpenDML AVI"...  accourding to the definition in the link that Gamester17 provided, none of them should play at all..  when the one that is just below 2048MB seems to work...

The quest continues..  (or am i out to lunch on this one)...

I am going to have to call bullshit on that.  I have two movies that I have created using Gordian Knot that are over 2GB and XBMP plays them fine, Casino is 2.1 GB and Minority Report is 2 GB.  Both have played fine in my Xbox.

Just saw your post.  Seems as if my movies push the limit of what you were able to play.  I am going to rip Gangs of New York and Pearl Harbor sometime soon, maybe PH this weekend,  and those should(could) run over 2GB.  I'll post back with my results.

Please let us know how it goes.  Also, with your results can your provide codec, encoder, and other pertinent info.

Thanks smile.gif

I also did LOTR-TTT. I did it four different times. Each from the same DVDDecrypter rip. Two are under 2gb and two are over 2gb. I have a rip using Gordian and a rip using Dr. Divx for each size. The ones under 2gb play just fine over the network and off of the HD. The ones that are over 2gb do not play off of the HD or over the network! The not streaming over the network is the only thing that really pisses me off. I have all of my movies on a server and am unable to play the ones that are over 2gb. With my home theater setup I really need to encode at 2000kb/s to have the quality I like.  I just simply can not get those to play without burning them to DVD-R.
Please keep this thread rolling...........I would like to figure out how to resolve this. Thanks

i see i'm not the only one with that problem..  (missery loves company.. lol)  wink.gif   It's possible that we have configured something wrong..  and if someone has got this to go, hopefully they will give us some pointers..

I thought i would check to see if any one has tried this same test with some other pc side software other than Relax...  (that was my next step..  may have been a reach.. but i 'll try anything at this point)...

I am using SMB shares. FYI.
I do not think there is anything that we could possibly be doing differently in our configs.

It may be best to post this in the official XBMP site forums.  This is something I'm sure they would alter or fix.  It may have actually worked previously but during a CVS sort of died and no one noticed.  I can't imagine them not working this kink out of the system in a hurry.
