XBMP can not use DVD menus. The only way you can play the DVD is either by burning it and watching it with DVDx2, or extract the vob files and playing them like normal files i XBMP.

The development of XBMP has slowed significantly and not many new features are added. The DVD Playback from the hard disk would be the last feature I would like to see in XBMP.

The two most wanted features were.

1. Extraction of encrypted files form a dvd to hard disk (Now done with dvd2xbox)
2. Playback of those files with menus.. etc.

The deal is, he hasn't burned it. He only has the img file. Which sucks.

Basically, buy the DVD or a Burner mate, since I have little faith in you being able to rip it.

In the past I would have agreed with you, but after trying a program called "Dr. DivX" I would bet that any noob could make a rip to cd.

Having a DVD burner is still the best way to go if you can afford it .

I dont know if im reading shit wrong or what but I play all my dvd-r rips in xbmp. I just go to xbmp-my programs-dvd iso or dvd udf then navigate to the video_ts.ifo file and it plays fine so you might need to try more than one time but it works for me.

You know, I don't think that the XBMP is capable of reading the IFO stuff like a DVD player or computer hardware does.  I have attempted several times with no luck.  The moderators of the forum probably know more about the way the reader interprets the files.  I just flip through the VOBs until I see the start, then watch it until the end of THAT VOB.  Then, you have to start the next succession VOB.  Beware about the audio track though......it is common for some VOBs to play a different track....ie french/german etc.  You just have to flip back to your language type.  Annoying, but OK.
I have recently been using the Gordian Knot as described in other forums with better luck.  The sound with a compressed DIVX is WAY SUPERIOR to that of the output from a VOB for some reason.  If you look back about a week or so, I posted a question about the XBMP sound quality.  In playing VOB's, I get distortion sometimes at the peaks, but with the DIVX crunched track it sounds great.

I think the people that make dvdx should implement in the next version a play from hard drive feature.  I don't know how difficult this is but PowerDVD (dvd player for computer) has a feature to watch dvd from hard drive.  If you copy all the contents of a dvd to ur hard drive, You can point powerdvd to that folder and it plays just like a regular dvd.

Hold up man what the fuck do I have to lie for? I can promise you that I play all my dvd-r through xbmp. My bad about the cunfusion but it is MY VIDEOS-select dvd/udf or dvd/iso and I select the video_ts.ifo file and it plays fine for me the only time it doesnt play is when the dvd drive is still looking for something after boot up if the dvd drive is stopped it will start up fine but if its still looking for something from bootup I have to reboot. So that it is stopped. I dont know if it matters any but I use a pc-dvd drive (pioneer) on my xbox. Its works for me I am using the version that came with slayer auto-install.
