hey man same exact problem here.  I had an older version and it allowed to me search my HD for movies and stuff but in 2.4 i can't search for crap.  And i know it's a much better player (i was using 1.0 before i think) so i really wanna use it.  I just got on here to search for a solution to this it's gotta be pretty simple.  i'm not looking for any sort of streaming information i ust want it to play what i have on my HD thanks so much

First, check your config.xml.  If you could, compare the one you had for your previous version to the one for 2.4.  You'll see some differences.  This will be a good learning experience.

in my config it was listed as "videos" but my submenu had a file called "video".  Also, there is a cache file somewhere that you have to delete when upgrading.

what i mean by search the HD is in this old version i had.  You could look in any directory you wanted in any of the drives.  It was like searching through a file manager

Gotcha,
That was before my time.  It sound like a great feature though.
