Can Someone Exlplain In Newbie Terms?
« on: August 01, 2003, 05:22:00 PM »

I was reading the tutorial on installing Relax in the pinned section.  I tried installing Relax but nothing happened.  So I tried using the no service version, and I still couldn't figure out how to use it.  I also have music made from MSDashboard on my hdd, and when I click on hdd in the My Music section, nothing happens.  Can someone help please?

Thanks!

By default, xbmp looks for e: music (or something along those lines) when u select HDD in My music. You have to edit the config.xml file to show the full path to your music files. I dont remember where the files get ripped to when u copy a cd from the MS dash. If i was you i would create a new folder in F (if you have upgraded your hdd) and point the config.xml to look at that folder. This way you can rip cd's on your pc and FTP the files to a folder. You could also FTP your other mp3's, wav's, whatever to this folder and have a folder full of all your music. Same thing can be done with vid's and pix.

It seems you havent edited the config.xml file properly (or at all). heres what mine looks like:

     <share>
       <name>HDD</name>
       <url>f:/MyMusic</url>
     </share>

thats under the music section of the config.xml

For relax this is what i have set up:

     <share>
       <name>Network (XBMSP)</name>
       <url>e:server/media/[email protected]</url>
       <cachesize>256</cachesize>
     </share>

You can see how it points to the path of the music on my PC + my PC's IP addy.

Everything is in the config.xml

edit: put in slashes

First of all stop saying "Thanks!!!!" after every post.

When u edit the config.xml, where it says "e:/server/media/[email protected]/videos"
you have to type in the path to the files that are on YOUR PC. That path is to my music files on MY PC. Im sure yours is quite different.

For instance if your music you want to stream on your PC is in "C:/Documents and Settings/User/My Documents/My Music" like the default in XP, then that is what u would type in the config.xml.
Example:

<share>
<name>Network (XBMSP)</name>
<url>C:/Documents and Settings/User/My Documents/My Music@<your PC IP address here></url>
<cachesize>8192</cachesize>
</share>

Then in relax you would have to add that folder to the shares list. Remember to make sure you put in the right slashes = //// <--not these ones

kooks...thx i like the way you explain it better than most of the guides i have seen. But i have 1 question. Do i use my PC's IP addy, or the NIC IP that i have my xbox connected to? I think it is PC, but i just wanted to make sure.

This is how it should look for an XBMSP share:
       <share>
       <name>Network (XBMSP)</name>
       <url>xbmsp://192.168.1.2/mymusic</url>
       <cachesize>256</cachesize>

This is how it should look for a Relax share:
       <share>
       <name>Network (XNS)</name>
       <url>c:\[email protected]</url>
       <cachesize>256</cachesize>
       </share>

This is how it should look for a SMB share:
       <share>
       <name>Network (SMB)</name>
       <url>smb://username:password@workgroup/computer/share</url>
       <cachesize>8192</cachesize>
       </share>

The "no service" version is easy to configure
Give it a chance.
TopLeft of screen Rt. Click on Shares.
Goto Add and then Rename the folder.

Go to Bottom right and then click on Browse,
then Drag and drop the folder you want to share ontop of the folder you created and renamed under Shares

Yes, use the location that the xbox intends to look for the files.
