Anyone Using Xbmp As Dash?
« on: June 19, 2003, 04:32:00 AM »

To make xbmp your dash,
do you just empty out all the contents on to C: and rename to evoxdash.xbe?

Sounds a little messy. Are there any neat ways of doing it?

Definitly No..

Place the default.xbe  in C and rename to evoxdash  (if X2 chip)

Then place the rest of the contents on your E or F partition   MAKE sure you have the Home Tag  in the  .xml  file correct or you will have Serious problems..

The modchip does not determine the order in which a dashboard file is resolved.  It is a function of the BIOS you are using.

e.g. of Xecuter BIOS . . .

* auto search for evoxdash.xbe THEN nexgen.xbe and THEN it will load xboxdash.xbe
if neither of the previous two are found (in that order)

A walkthrough for setting XBMP as dashboard is here in how to section . . .

http://www.xbmp.de/

Its a good idea to have a cd bootable version of evoX to recover from any problems that may arise.

If you have XBMP as dashboard remeber when upgrading in the future to copy the new XBMP default.xbe (gets renamed to evoxdash.xbe) to xbox C: partition also.

My apologies. I have a manual, and read it cover to cover. Problem was I never got a newer version of it.

From the online tut it would seem that I need to copy the xbmp default.xbe to C: and rename it evoxdash.xbe so my BIOS (4976-02) finds it upon booting

The Xbox media player.cut file only needs to have this?
<shortcut>
<path>Harddisk0Partition1AppsXBMPdefault.xbe</path>
</shortcut>

Only these three lines?

And should i put it on C:

Did i miss anything?
Any reason why I should NOT do this?

thanks!

I did it like that and haven't had any problems. Like others have said though, it's good to have a bootable cd with EvoX on it just in case.

Agreed.

I keep my boot DVD within easy reach at all times.

How is your experiecne using it as a dash?
anything you miss?

Hey x-ace,

I'm running XBMP as my dash right now and I have to say that I've never been happier. Using XBMP + the Xbox remote control has turned my xbox into a media nirvana =)

I have a nice 51" widescreen HDTV in my living room hooked up to the xbox and my surround system. It's great, my xbox loads up, I can access my movies (which I stream from my PC) when my buddies and I want to watch movies, when we have a party I can go into "My Music" and people can use the remote to queue up songs and play whatever they want, I can also go into "My Pictures" and show off some of my photography that I do on the side. Furthermore because I can split my screen in two (although it's not necessary), I've setup a batch file on my PC to automatically update the XBMP tvguide listings once a week so I also use the TV Guide as my interactive guide (which is darn cool).

Oh, and for all my games on my HD, my emulators, utils like Evox , DVDX2, ConfigMagic, etc, i use the "My Programs" menu item, and created a directory e:appsxbmpshortcuts where I store all my shortcuts (.Cut files) for all my programs, games, utils, emulators, etc.

I'd have to say it's a sweet setup and can't be beat =)

Ok...small problem for me.  I was using evox as my dash and decided to give xbmp a whirl and forgot that I could not ftp into my box while xbmp was running.  How can I get into my box via ftp or get evox to run again?

I'm assuming worst case I could just delete the evoxdash.xbe by using boXplorer and then reboot.  Cause I renamed the evoxdash to neXgen and the xbmp xbe to evoxdash.

Hmm. I can ftp into my xbox just fine using xbmp.

You can always just boot from an evox disc (you did read the many warnings they were giving me...) and either restore evox or change your settings so you can ftp in.

If you set up xbmp right you would also be able to go from xbmp to the evox dash from the main menupage. Or you would be able to launch it from booksmarks or shortcuts. Failing this, I would go with the evox disc option.

The folowing is my network settings from the config.xml, where 0.3 is my xbox, and 0.1 is the ip of my router.

tongue.gif and I did read it  biggrin.gif ).  I had not setup a "dashboard" bookmark yet and I'm not sure I know what you mean by getting back to evox from the mainpage on xbmp.

Ok...wow scratch that...I just ftp'd in again and now I can access the drives but instead of showing me say the z drive it only shows me the c, d, e and f...which is fine with me.   biggrin.gif

Now I just need to set up my xbmp so I can get back to evox and the m$ dash with the click of a button or two.
