Flatten Folder Feature In Relax
« on: June 07, 2003, 07:45:00 PM »

As some of you know I have posted a few times trying to figure out the flatten folder feature of RelaX, which makes the contents of subdirectories appear to be grouped in one folder when viewed in XBMP. To me this was especially useful for the slideshow feature since I have alot of images in folders labeled by date. I wanted a slideshow of all of my images. Well after days and days of trial and error I found the answer so here are some steps to make this feature work for those who are interested.

Scenario:

RelaX Share of C:Documents and Settingsall usersdocumentsshared pictures
with the shared pictures subdirectory containing multiple folders and images.

1. In left pane of RelaX ADD a share and rename it as desired. For instructional purposes we will name it IMAGES.

2. In the right pane, browse to the final desired group of folders you wish to share, which in the case would be "shared pictures".

3. Drag and drop "shared pictures" onto the virtual folder IMAGES that you just added in the left pane.

4. In the left pane select the item you just dropped and select YES for FLATTEN in the bottom left corner. You may also select YES for INTEGRATE if you wish. Seleting only YES for FLATTEN will result in the folder "shared pictures" being displayed after selecting the IMAGES share in XBMP. Selecting YES for both FLATTEN and INTEGRATE will result in all of the contained images being displayed. Basically it tells XBMP to look past all folders in that share and only display the files.

5. Now you have to edit your config.xml. You will add the following under the appropriate media heading, which in this case would be pictures.

<share>
<name>Images</name>
<url>[email protected]</url>
<cachesize>256</cachesize>
</share>

Note: The name entered after $ROOT$ must match the name given to the share in step 1.

6. Save your updated XML file to the appropriate location and you should be good to go.

There are other options such as choosing a main folder that contains subdirectories with mixed media (ie. mp3, avi, jpg, bmp, etc..) You can create a virtual folder, add that main share and name it MP3s, flatten that share and have RelaX only display the MP3s by adding that extension in the options.

Don't know how much use any of this will be to anyone but I hope it helps someone. There may also be better ways of going about this but this is what I found to work.
