Help Needed For Xbmp "refinement"

QUOTE (edfraney @ May 12 2003, 03:47 PM)
Firstly, the only "problem" I am having is with the "auto-launch" function.  When I turn the box on, if there is a game in the drive it will boot it without ever getting to the XBMP Main Menu (I have XBMP as my default dashboard).

The DVD drive boots before the hard drive.  That's just how it is.  xbmp has nothing to do with this.

If you were able to boot directly to the hard drive, there'd be nothing you could do if you messed up files on there and couldn't boot off it anymore.

OK.  Makes sense mongoose thanks for the help.  So any idea what the "autolaunch" commands are for in XBMP?

Thanks again

Question: What is your XBMP Version ?

When xbox starts up it loads d:default.xbe first if not then the dashboard on harddrive. So if you put a disk inside, the game WILL load.

There is no Auto launch DVD feature yet. Atleast in ver 2.3 of XBMP that i have. b.t.w isnt that the latest ;-
The tags you found is probably for a new version [2.4]

You can get all the information about the tags from the Official XBMP manual.
http://osdn.dl.sourc...ual2.3.2eng.pdf

YES, Video sizes can be changes. You have to modify the "skin.xml" file. The tags are pretty obvious.

Full DVD menu feature is not implemented yet. u'll get it in 2.4. But for now you can launch the VOB files directly.

Well all the pics are in the media folder, u can try changing it. Well don't blame me if it screws up. Tell me if it works.

XBMP uses FileZilla. FileZilla locks up to one drive and also puts a colon to the drives name ":". its a known fact. Can't do much about it. Though XBMP is my dash, I still use Evox for FTP.

Vinupuni,

My version of XBMP is 2.3, Build 14th April 2003.  I think there may be a newer version out but my skills haven't come far enough yet to find it.

I think you are right.  The tags for "autolaunch" that I found are probably from a newer version of XBMP as I had read the manual you meantioned and never came across anything regarding them.  One thing though, I did find tags that do work in my config.xml file that weren't listed in the help manual, which was one of the reasons I was asking.

Also, maybe I'm wrong but doesn't EvoX allow you to boot to it first, even if you have a game in the drive?  I have changed across to XBMP as my dashboard now and can't really be bothered to go back and check, but I thought it did.  I seemed to remember autolaunch commands when I created the evox.ini.  But it's probably my imagination, and again they could be for something totally different like launching when you put a DVD in with Evox up and running and not related to the boot, etc.

I'll have a mess about with the pictures for the menus tonight and let you know how I do.  I'll be making plenty of backups just incase!

Thanks for the tip on the skins.xml I'll go check it out.  Also, interesting to learn that I can launch the VOB's direct from the DVD.  I'd never tried it as I'd never had a share to the DVD drive, I'm off to do that right now and check it out.

Nuff thanks for your help, it's much appreciated.

Ed.

P.S.  One thing I thought Mongoose was this:  Can the box not boot directly from the HD and if it didn't find nothing move over to the DVD.  Like the option that most people use on their home computers.  If the harddrive dies you can still stick in a boot cd and get it up and running.  Just a thought.

Those tags are for a CVS release of XBMP.

From the CVS readme.txt

3-16-2003

Nothing checked in yesterday, so no build. Lots of stuff today, however.
An "auto play" option has been added which effects many files. Config.xml
updated with three new tags; autolaunchcdda, autolaunchdvd and
autolaunchxbox. They are set to "true" or "false". There are also two new
cut files as examples. "CD Player.cut" and "DVD Player.cut". Unfortunately
the auto play doesnt happen _WITHIN_ xbmp yet, it just calls external
applications. Refer to the two aforementioned .cut files to set the
apps it uses for playback. If you don't edit them, it defaults to the
xboxdash for DVD and CD.

Complex a point release i.e Complex 2.3

and a CVS release i.e. xbmp_2.3_cvs_compile_xbins_4-14-03.zip

CVS introduce new features.  Another e.g. is the ability to set the XBMP resolution . . .

   <resolution>1</resolution>

Look thriugh the CVS readme.txt (probably in your xbmp folder) it will show when
the new features, bugs fixes were implemented  wink.gif

edfraney,

Thx, for those lengthy autolaunch info's/warnings. I'm now going to try them out.
For the autolaunch HD first option, i think its controlled at the BIOS level. You may want to question some hard-core bios guys.

w m z,

On the xbfilezilla version, is there something like we can upgrade the xbfilezilla version alone, without upgrading XBMP. if yes then what are the file that i need to upgrade ?
I'd really like to get this Evox out of the way for FTP.
