Shoutscraper We Need You
« on: April 29, 2003, 06:11:00 AM »

I've been getting alot of empty files from the program which i know people have been having problems with. I downloaded an archive of files but they no longer seem to work  =(

This is the best thing to happen to xbmp since, well the invention of xbmp.  If anyone know whats going on with the project or if there's a similar program please reply

I've been hacking at the xbox shoutcast player to try to get it to stream shoutcast streams from my proxy. Local testing with winamp and freeamp works fine (they can use the proxy without any problems), but shoutcast on the xbox buffers 0 bytes then croaks. I've waited about two weeks for the devs to reply to a request on the command protocol and how they implemented it, but no reply. So I have to resume hacking at it until it works. Which takes a long time since the xbox has to be rebooted after every failed test :/

I may be dreaming here but how about a version of shoutscraper that runs on the xbox? It would be a homebrew app that you run from the xbox. It would go off to shoutcast and bring back the top 25 of each genre and put the files onto the xbox hard-drive. That way there is no pc involvement and you could update your files when you feel like it, rather than automatically. I presume this would reduce the hammering of the shoutcast servers also.

Any chance? Anyway, please get shoutscraper going as soon as possible, it is brilliant. Thanks for all your efforts.

Here's the update:
I can't get a peep out of any of the xbmp people on the xboxmediaplayer.de dev forum as to how they have implemented shoutcast requests, so until then its not worth the effort to reverse-engineer their crap ( a typical debug session consists of me having to reboot the xbox every time it crashes trying to retrieve a shoutcast stream ). Quite annoying really.  muhaha.gif

Noooooooooooo!!!   sad.gif

Have you tried emailing them, or working something else out?

Don't give up, Konfoo, we need you!   beerchug.gif

So the new iteration of Shoutscraper will not really "scrape" shoutcast.com and generate local .sc files?  It will now work like RelaX's "SC-LIVE" feature?

Either way, I will take it any way I can get it; let me know if there is anything we can do to help...

Oooh nooo!

I want my Shoutscraper back!

(Better yet I want the Xbox to "scrape" the site directly w/o the need for a seperate computer...)

i can recieve shoutcast stations thru xbox, i uploaded the sc files to my xbox and they play no prob. if the problem you have been having is either the xbox freezing or not working when trying to play the sc files via relax. the problem is due to overloading of the servers. although if you have the files saved from before eg. not updated every second or so they will still play....did that make any sense at all???
