Playing Region 1 Dvd's With A Dvd R2 Dongle
« on: April 21, 2003, 03:02:00 AM »

Hi All,

I have a R2 (UK PAL) Xbox & dongle, but have some R1 DVD's that I want to play using my remote.  (I know that DVDX v2 is region free - but I want to use my remote!)

I've tried patching my orig. dash using DVDX v1 but it didnt find a compatible dash.  I then downloaded slayers and transferred across the 4034 dash (3 files).  This patched OK with DVDx v1, but when I try to play a DVD I get the Xbox service screen.

BTW I have Xbox Live installed as well.

Can anyone help???

Mark.

Have a look at this thread maybe get some ideas on how to get this working.

OK - I've managed to get this to work.  Here's what I did:

backed up my xbox c:\ drive
deleted everything on my xbox c:\ but leaving my evoxdash.xbe and evox.ini
downloaded slayers iso and extracted to a temp folder on my PC
copied across the contents of \SYSTEM\ALL\c from the temp folder to xbox c:\
copied across the 4034 dash from \SYSTEM\ALL\1.X\4034
booted the DVDx v1 disk (burnt to a DVD-R)
patched the dash & rebooted

all sorted!!

nope - haven't tried Live - and I'm moving soon to a non-broadband area, so I'm not too bothered..........

can't see it being a problem though?  unsure.gif

It actually is a problem, unfortunately.

For anybody that cares, I've got Live working correctly while also having a 4627 dash patched progressive and DVDX 1.1.  I'm working on refining right now as it uses up a lot of unnecessary space.  Here's the process so far:

1.  Xbox Live moves most files from the root of C into a "xboxdashdata.xxxxxxxxx" directory where the xxxxxxxx is a specific and needed number.  I don't know what generates that number, but changing or removing it breaks the Live dash.  So, what you have to do is copy (not move) all the files from that directory into the root again for a dash older than 4920 to work.

2.  Do the other basic steps to patch a 4034 or 4627 dash w/progressive and DVDX.

3.  I tried making a directory on both e and f and moving all the files there.  Then running the dash from that partition/directory.  That doesn't work, either.

I've been on Live for a couple days after this, and I don't seem to be banned.  My only concern now is that a future Live update will remove those files from the c partition again.

Let me know if any of this helps.
