A few things:

Delete e:tdataface007system.bin

Disable ALL evo-x IGR (In Game Reset).

Pull out the network cabel and start.

If you use the mediaplayer.cut file, edit it to point to right partion and folder. (also make sure it points to default.xbe and not xbplayer.xbe)

If this don“t work, delete EVERY singel file that has to do with xbmp.
Again, delete e:tdataface007system.bin
Install xbmp 2.3 complex point release to a NEW folder. (dont need to be a diffrent partion)
And start

e:|tdata|0face007|system.bin (I have to use | instead of the normal alt gr + plus as it seams it dont like them here)
exists and can couse many of the lockups.

pop.gif was having the same problem, all i did was delete TDATA:0face007 and it stopped locking up
