i checked out xbmp cvs build 3-4-2003 and this one does play dvd movies both region 1 and region 2 so it seems there's no region check on the xbox or xbmp surpasses it.
i had to change my config xml setting<autolaunchdvd>true</autolaunchdvd> to false
when it was set to true it either goes to another player or to the dashboard(in my case)
to play a dvd i went to my iso9660 dvd and started an ifo file

i can play
in the mouth of madness region 1
and the cube region 2

i had problems with
fight club region 1

Can u play divx from xbxo cd drive?
