You can also try to run your desktop at the same res of the video you are going to watch. That way you minimize resizing artifacts that crop up when the file is displayed fullscreen.

It might be that on your pc a different codec is being used, one that might not be as good as the one being used on the xbox.  Try changing the priority of codecs on your pc (can't remember how).

What codec does XBMP use? If multiple codecs please name them all and what priority they are placed in; that is if you know.

Uses all the same codecs as mplayer [mplayer.hu].   There's a list on their site over the codecs used.

It might be that on your pc a different codec is being used, one that might not be as good as the one being used on the xbox.  Try changing the priority of codecs on your pc (can't remember how).

Load your video into WMP click file, properties then the advanced panel. Click on the codec your want to modify and click properties.

Try ffshow and changing it's properties. You can select which codec plays what from there.

If you have installed Nimo and xvid's play green, untick xvid in the ffshow options and xvid's will play fine again.

I personally think my PC is identical quality to my xbox except divx/xvid looks better on the pc (Put out onto a TV). Mind you I have got a Gforce4MX with I believe a connexant TV encoder on board.
