1080i & 720p Support Now In Xbmp !
« on: March 13, 2003, 03:34:00 PM »

Just curious what others results have been for DVD played at 1080i [ upconverted ] ?
Trying to get this going myself with PiXEL8's VGA bios but I don't think it is going to work just yet [ I think he has to enable more that 480p support ] .

Is 1080i really supported in XBMP?  I couldn't find anything about it on their site.  If it is, I'll be reinstalling it.

Does this look right to you?

config.xml:

   <resolution>7</resolution>

Skin.xml:

<skin>
 <mode>
   <widescreen>true</widescreen>
   <resolution>720x480</resolution>
   <default>true</default>

..... further down..

mode>
   <widescreen>true</widescreen>
   <resolution>720x480</resolution>
   <default>false</default>

Or for 1080i do i have to edit the resolution to look like this:

skin.xml:

<skin>
 <mode>
   <widescreen>true</widescreen>
   <resolution>1920x1080</resolution>
   <default>true</default>

..... further down..

mode>
   <widescreen>true</widescreen>
   <resolution>1920x1080</resolution>
   <default>false</default>

yeah , you have to change the config.xml to say "7" and then put the default to False for 720x480 and make 1920x1080 the default ... you got the right idea . It should work fine with the Component HD pack [ providing you have an HDTV ] .

So all i have to do is set the resolution tag to 7, like i have above?  Does the skin have to have a 1920x1080 setting to work, or will XBMP just upscale the skin if the skin maker didnt have this resolution in mind?

With the lastest version 13-3-3 I got the screen not correct. It is more on the upper side of the TV. I tried some settings... But which one should I take then? I got it with the widescreen and normal screen....

If the skin.xml file doesn't have a mode for the requirested resolution, then XBMP will quit with the appropriate error message.

hulkyh, patience my friend. smile.gif You will soon be able to change the resoltuion in XBMP... but it might require a restart though.

ChocoboLee ,
really , seems odd then that if I only change the tag to 7 in the config and leave the skin file alone XBMP does nothing and just goes right back to the dashboard , but if I edit the skin.xml then it will try to switch and state that it cannot due to the Video Settings . Maybe this is all happening to me this way due to the PiXEL8/VGA solution instead of Ken's VGA box or the HD pack [ which uses the component video instead of true VGA ] .
Thank You for the Input , I appreciate it smile.gif . I am sure some sense will be made of all this soon ...

If you do not have the component cable plugged in, Xbox does not allow an output of 1920x1080 or 1280x720. So XBMP cannot run in the mode. I think that's also why the true VGA solution currently cannot ouput more than 480p.

As to why you have to change skin.xml to see the error, i am not sure. If you can reproduce this problem, can you file a bug on it? Thanks!

I can get it to output a 1080i image when I play a dvd in the dvd drive, but the picture starts half way down the screen and there are black bars on each side.  I did calibrate the screen, so I don't think that is the prob.  Any suggestions?
