Xbmp Playing Dvd's
« on: February 23, 2003, 07:47:00 AM »

hey... i made a backup dvd of one that i owned, and i tried to play it with Dvdx, however it had a big line at the top and bottom, and there was no way to change this as dvdx thought this was part of the movie... Damn i thought what can i do...so then i went and decided to try it with todays cvs release of xbmp from xbins, however i'd heard bad reports of xbmp playing Dvds (it was a proper dvd with all the different .vob files) So i load it up and just play the first .vob file and its the same, then i went into the options and enabled stretch, damn though it still didn't change as it thought the stripe above was part of the film!Try again, so i clicked options again and disabled stretch, enable Zoom and wahey i thought!It filled the whole screen.. but after about 25mins of watching the first.vob file came to an end and i closed that and opened the next one...by the end of watching the first 3.vob's i was fed up of doing this so i decided to try and change it. I opened up the main xbmp screen went into settings and selected Stack files, however you have proably heard the bad reviews of these before. So then i selected the 4th.vob file and watched comfortably for another 60mins without having to touch the controller again! There wasn't a single glitch between opening the other .vobs after the 4th one, and if you're wondering the dvd was a in Iso9660 format!

Hope that will help some one who has the same problem with bands at the top!

You need to change it to this:
</share>
     <share>
       <name>HDD</name>
       <url>f:/movies</url>
     </share>
     <share>
       <name>DVDROM (UDF)</name>

     <share>
       <name>DVDROM (ISO9660)</name>
       <url>iso9660:</url>
     </share>
   </videos>

then when you go to the video option in xbmp and select hard drive it should show all the .vob files however make sure you have enabled the stacking of files, open the first .vob and it will play all the way without a glitch
NOTE were there is a / you need to change it to a backslash as this forum doesn't support backslashes

It's the white button, that bring up three lil images on the bottom, then you can choose which one (with a button) and that brings up menu to select subs and such

Well main thing is, i know how to do chapter selection with xbmp, but it would also be nice to do it through the normal menu of the dvd itself, and the subtitles i dont get them with the settings in xbmp, that normally can be done with the menu of the dvd itself, but i dont know how to point it when i get the menu.
